2017 Catholic Stewardship Appeal

THANK YOU

Two simple words, yet I hope they convey my gratitude for everyone who made last weekend's festival so successful.  The core committee, which had been meeting all year in order to prepare for the festival, did a great job.  Their tireless dedication (especially late into the night all three days) is deeply appreciated by all of us.  All the people who agreed to be in charge of an area, also worked tirelessly last weekend to make sure there were no hiccups in their areas, thank you.  To the hundreds of volunteers who agreed to work one or more time slots, bake items for the bake sale, or who donated prizes, thank you!

I know many of you will ask about the financial results.  We will not have any information until all the bills have been submitted by the various vendors, and paid.  So I ask your patience.  As soon as we have the information, you will be notified.

We have all watched the devastation in Texas and Louisiana with the catastrophic flooding from Hurricane Harvey.  It is overwhelming to see the rain totals in some of the affected cities.  On one of our local TV stations, they were comparing the totals of rain received in the past few days in Texas, to the amount of rain received in Milwaukee in an average year.  Some totals were almost twice what we receive in Milwaukee, with more to come as of this writing. The United States Conference of Catholic Bishops, has called for an emergency national collection to assist the victims of Hurricane Harvey.  All money collected will be forwarded to Catholic Charities USA, the national disaster relief arm of the USCCB, to assist in the immediate emergency needs of the people as well as long term rebuilding.  We will be taking a second collection at all Masses next weekend (September 9 & 10) in response to the USCCB's request.  Please keep the victims of this disaster in your prayers.

St. Matthias, Pray for us,

Matthew 5:14-16

You are the light of the world. A city set on a mountain cannot be hidden.
Nor do they light a lamp and then put it under a bushel basket; it is set on a lampstand, where it gives light to all in the house.
Just so, your light must shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your heavenly Father.

The Communications Committee is looking for working members.  This is an active ministry that works with our web site, Facebook page and E-Newsletter.  The committee meets in the parish office conference room the first Wednesday of each month at 7:00 PM we are usually finished by 8:30 PM.  You don't have to be a techno wiz; if you love to write and report on parish activities we welcome you.  We need you to help bring the story of St. Mathias Parish forward.  If you are interested, please call the parish office (414) 321-0893 or e-mail.
