Looking Toward this Sunday July 23, 2017

Scripture: Genesis 1: 26-27; 2: 4-7, 18-22; 3: 20-21; 4: 1-2, 25
Sermon: The People's Choice: Is the story of Adam and Eve relevant to us?

Lib McGregor Simmons will preach at 8:30 and 9:45 in Lingle Chapel and at 11 in the sanctuary.

As the People's Choice summer worship series continues, we turn to the story of Adam and Eve and how it might be relevant to us today.

We note that the creation of man and woman is recounted in two distinct stories in Genesis.  In Genesis 1, readers are simply told, "So God created humankind in his image, in the image of God he created them; male and female he created them."  Genesis 2 launches the rich and likely older story of Adam, Eve, the Garden of Eden, the serpent, the eating of fruit from the tree, the births of Cain and Abel and the later death of Abel at the hand of Cain, and the birth of a third son Seth.

On Sunday, we will look most intently at the second narrative as a whole, drawing insights about love, commitment, and the truth that God is our ultimate keeper as we move through life's challenges.

Jim Shaw, baritone, will sing Down to the River at the 8:30 service.
The Summer Choir will sing Lord, Make Us Servants  at the 11 service.
