Summer Newsletter: Preventing Homelessness Together!

I am pleased to let you know about an exciting development for FamilyAid Boston. On July 1, we formalized a long and mutually beneficial partnership with the Family-to-Family Project. This merger will significantly expand FamilyAid Boston's impact in the area of family homelessness prevention and allow us to build on the expertise of the Family-to-Family Project in helping families who are at risk of losing their housing.

For nearly 30 years, the Family-to-Family Project has worked with a network of partner agencies to provide families at immediate risk of becoming homeless with small grants to help them regain housing stability. With more than 90% of families helped still housed after 12 months, the results speak for themselves.

As always, thank you for your friendship and for the tremendous support you give to families experiencing homelessness in our community.

Sincerely,

Richard E. Ring
Creating Solutions Together:

Families represent the fastest growing homeless population in the United States. FamilyAid Boston is working to address this crisis, but we cannot do it alone. We rely on generous corporate partners like Bank of America to help us develop lasting solutions to family homelessness.

Bank of America supports FamilyAid Boston's commitment to provide emergency shelter to homeless families 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, with the goal that no child ever has to spend night on the street. Miceal Chamberlain, Bank of America's Massachusetts President, states: "At Bank of America, we help build thriving communities by focusing on critical issues like workforce development and education, basic needs, and community development. We are proud to support FamilyAid Boston's program that addresses the critical housing needs of families who are on the path to economic stability and financial growth."

FamilyAid Boston's President Richard Ring reflects on the partnership: "There is a growing need for more private partnerships to address the family homelessness crisis in our community. Thanks to partners like Bank of America, we are able to provide 800 families, including 1,500 children, with the support and resources they need to return to safe, stable housing as quickly as possible."

Finding Home Again:

Marie is a proud mother of two children. She has a stable full time job, is attending school to receive her bachelor's degree, and has big dreams for her family's future. Six months ago, Marie never would have imagined this was possible. Like so many families in Boston, Marie and her children became homeless after a series of financial strains caused them to fall behind on their rent.

Over the past six months, through her work with FamilyAid Boston, Marie has worked hard to find a job, return to school, and moved into a home where she is paying an affordable and sustainable rent. After accomplishing so many of her goals, Marie says: "I hope that my kids know that everything we went through was to get to a better place. At FamilyAid Boston everyone treated me and my children with respect. I got everything I needed at FamilyAid Boston. They wouldn't let me go down without a fight! When you are going through homelessness you have no one to rely on but, the people at FamilyAid Boston were by my side, pushed me forward, and helped me to regain hope that I would find home again."
