Port Launches Free Harbor Tours
May - Oct., 2017
The Port of Oakland is sponsoring free harbor tours from May through October 2017 on the Blue & Gold Fleet. 90-minutes tours are held twice a month. Visitors will learn about the Port, its operations and economic impact on the region. The excursions are a great way to give visitors a close-up look at how the Oakland seaport works.

Congratulations to this year's Port of Oakland Employees' Scholarship Program recipients! This year, the Port awarded 13 scholarships, totaling $38,000.
To date, 270 scholarships totaling $886,000 have been awarded to Oakland high school seniors.

Local Students Gain Hands-on Experience at Aviation Day

Oakland International Airport and the Federal Aviation Administration partnered to bring "Oakland Aviation Day" to elementary and middle school students from the Oakland Unified School District. The students were thrilled to gain hands-on experience within the aviation industry.

Port's Asian Employees' Association Awards College Scholarships

Cypress Mandela Training Center Awarded $70,000
May 11, 2017
Cypress Mandela Training Center was awarded $70,000 to prepare local workers in the building trades and fund apprenticeship training. The grant was made possible through a project labor agreement Social Justice Fund, and collected from contractors who work on Port projects.

Buoyant Ecologies Community Engagement Project
Presents at Oakland City Hall

The Port partnered with the Buoyant Ecologies Community Engagement Project to bring Oakland High School students to the Port's Middle Harbor Shoreline Park. The students learned about wetland ecology from the Park's naturalist, researched how to design floating structures to reduce climate change effects, and presented their proposals at Oakland City Hall.

Volunteers Celebrate Earth Day at Middle Harbor Shoreline Park
Earth Day cleanup at the Port's Middle Harbor Shoreline Park was filled with fun activities, including bird watching, dune planting, trash collecting from the shoreline, as well as snacks and prizes for 120 volunteers!

Oakland Youth Careers Expo 2017
The Port of Oakland met the next generation of leaders at the 2017 Oakland Youth Careers Expo. Port staff spoke to more than 200 students about career pathways in engineering, environmental science and international trade.
