King County Elections installed a ballot drop box in front of Newcastle City Hall, giving local voters a convenient method of returning their ballots during elections. A stamp is not required when citizens deposit their ballots in a drop box.
During the regular meeting, staff members will present information about the city's Pavement Management System, the City Council will consider a resolution approving a construction contract for Phase 1 of Southeast May Creek Park Drive bicycle and pedestrian improvements, and more.
The City Council will hold a study session to discuss public realm improvements associated with the proposed
Downtown Strategic Plan before the regular meeting begins on July 18. The study session, which starts at 6 p.m. at City Hall, is open to the public.
Development in Newcastle's downtown will be put on hold for an additional three months while city officials complete work on updating plans and regulations for the area.

Staff Gets Spill Response Training
The Department of Ecology led Newcastle staff members through spill response training at Lake Boren Park on July 11. The training will ensure staff members are well prepared for a hazardous spill.
Volunteers Needed for Newcastle Fit Family Fun Run
The whole family is invited to the Newcastle Fit Family Fun Run at Lake Boren Park Aug. 5. The approximately 1.5-mile run/walk begins and ends at Lake Boren Park with activity and information stations along the way.
Volunteers are needed to help monitor the course, register participants, make buttons and more. Contact Wendy Kirchner at

The city estimates about 5,000 people filled Lake Boren Park to watch the Fourth of July fireworks show this year.
