Volunteer Opportunities with Lava Mae

Lava Mae is a San Francisco-Based nonprofit that is serving people moving through homelessness by taking what we call "radical hospitality" to the streets through our mobile hygiene services and our new Pop-Up Care Villages. Lava Mae started by converting public transportation MUNI buses into showers and toilets on wheels. They now have three mobile shower trailers that serve various communities in San Francisco and Los Angeles and deliver hygiene and dignity to people experiencing homelessness.

Doniece Sandoval, the founder of Lava Mae, presented at the SFIC June Monthly Breakfast and we are excited to support the organization as they continue providing showers and dignity to our unhoused neighbors.

Volunteers are the heart and soul of Lava Mae's programs and operations and the face of their philosophy "Radical Hospitality."

As volunteers, you will go out on the streets with them and carry on their mission of restoring dignity. Volunteers are encouraged to greet and welcome their guests warmly, as well as keep their showers clean and stocked with fresh towels and hygiene kits.

To sign up for a volunteer shift, you can click on our Volunteer Schedule and sign up for a 2-3 hour shift. This volunteer experience is ideal for individuals and groups of up to six volunteers.  Come by yourself or with your friends or colleagues and trust that you will have a safe, enjoyable and heartwarming experience.

We hope you join them for a day of high-touch hospitality on Lava Mae's mobile shower service! if you have any questions, feel free to email them at:
