The Honolulu Rail Project will provide a viable, alternate travel option for motorists that will also help lessen the tremendous amount of gridlocked traffic that has plagued Oahu's roadways for years. The last thing the streets of Honolulu needs is something to add to that gridlock. That's exactly why, after exhaustive and painstaking research, it was decided that Honolulu's rail transit system would be elevated to not only minimize the impacts on existing ground traffic for motorists but to also provide enhanced safety options for the increasing number of pedestrians and bicyclists using Oahu's roadways.
The risk of people and trains crossing paths is always a concern with an
"at-grade" rail system.
The dedicated elevated guideway ensures that rail trains will operate separate and apart from the congestion that takes place on island roadways. When traffic slows or even stops on the freeways and streets, rail keeps on moving without delay or interruption. Likewise, elevated rail will not interfere with roadway traffic.
Honolulu's elevated rail system will be fast, safe and reliable. For passengers who ride the rail, there will be absolutely no congestion, and they'll know exactly when they can expect to arrive at their destination.

With a smaller footprint, it will require less land to construct Honolulu's elevated rail guideway and rail stations than it would take to build a system operating at street level.
The rail transit guideway will be approximately thirty feet high in most areas and at least 16.5 feet above the roads that cross under it. The guideway and stations will be supported by columns approximately six feet in diameter about 150 feet apart from each other.
Not only will the elevated rail stations be equipped with elevators and/or escalators, but also they will be fully compliant with the Americans with Disabilities Act.

HART CONTINUES ITS PUBLIC OUTREACH AT 23RD ANNUAL HAWAII LODGING, HOSPITALITY, AND FOOD SERVICE EXPO
HART representatives had a great couple days at the Hawaii Lodging, Hospitality & Food Service Expo at the Blaisdell. Hundreds of exhibitors greeted thousands of visitors to the
two-day event. The HART Team was on hand to share information on and answer questions about the Honolulu Rail Transit Project.
The response was overwhelmingly positive as people enjoyed "fly-over" videos of the 20-mile project, heard about HART's "Shop & Dine on the Line Program" to residents to support local businesses during project construction, and viewed detailed information about each of the 21 stations along the rail route.
We'd sincerely like to thank all who attended the Expo and especially those who took the time to visit HART's information station.
