Senior Class Ministers in Nicaragua
|
|
The Prince Avenue Senior class recently spent a week in Managua, Nicaragua working with Baptist Medical and Dental Mission International (BMDMI). Former Prince Chaplain David Shivar and his wife Beverly are currently serving as missionaries with BMDMI and worked side by side with the Prince senior class while they were there.
Each day, students traveled to Ciudad de Belen and ministered to children in the school there by refurbishing their playground equipment, playing with the children, and sharing songs through puppets. The students also went to different homes and prayed with the people of the area.

Prince Seniors Minister to Local Organizations

|
The Prince seniors that were not able to travel on the international mission trip participated in local missions. Students worked to meet the needs of community organizations in the Athens area including the Atlanta Mission Thrift Store, the Sparrow's Nest, and the Potter's House.

Weaver Wins State Literary Essay
|
|
Prince senior Emily Weaver recently competed in the State Literary Meet held at Georgia Military College in Milledgeville. Emily won first place in Rhetorical Essay.

Three Prince Avenue Christian School students recently served as Pages at the Georgia State Capitol. Sixth-grader Sawyer Bradford served State Representative Bruce Williamson in the Georgia House of Representatives. Freshmen Erin Eley and Bailey Hicks served State Senator Frank Ginn in the Georgia State Senate. The girls also had a meeting with Governor Nathan Deal during their day of service. Congratulations to these Prince students on pursuing a unique opportunity to learn about Georgia state politics and for representing the Prince community well.

The Prince Avenue lower school Spelling Bee participants recently traveled to Lilburn, Georgia to compete in the ACSI Elementary Spelling Bee at Calvary Christian School. The following students received ribbons: 2nd place - Jake Peacock and Riley Reeder, 3rd place - Aurie Chandler and Abigail Wolfe, 4th place - Michael McGinn.

The Prince Avenue lower school Math Olympics team recently traveled to Rome, Georgia and competed at Unity Christian School in the ACSI Math Olympics. Out of six schools, 13 of Prince's 18 competitors received ribbons for placement.

Prince Parent Angel Meeler
Lunch and Learn Speaker

Prince parent Angel Meeler was the speaker at this year’s final Lunch and Learn for high school students. Mrs. Meeler works in medical imaging. She described to students the different types of medical imaging including x-ray, cat scan, and ultrasound. She also explained the degree necessary and the professional options available to students who obtain that degree.

Lower School Students Enjoy Science Labs
|
|
Lower School students have been enjoying the benefits of the Walton EMC Grant providing for more science labs. Money from the grant was used to purchase supplies for the 3rd grade to plant a vegetable garden. Grant money was also used to purchase an incubator and eggs for the Kindergarten and 1st grade to do an egg lab. Lower school students were able to observe the chicks hatching and visit with the new baby chicks.

Crawford and Sewell, Honorary Members of
U.S. Army Band and Soldier’s Chorus

Two Prince Avenue Christian School Fine Arts students were honored last weekend when they performed with the United States Army Field Band and Soldier’s Chorus.
Senior Sydney Crawford and sophomore Thompson Sewell were two of the 14 students from the metropolitan Atlanta area who were selected as honorary members of the U.S. Army Band and Soldier’s Chorus.

Sewell Nominated for Shuler-Hensley Award

Prince Avenue Christian School sophomore Thompson Sewell has received a Shuler Hensley Award nomination for his role as Cat in the Hat in the Prince Fine Arts production of
Seussical
. Thompson will perform at the Shuler Hensley Awards ceremony on April 19th at the Cobb Energy Center. The ceremony will be broadcast live at 7:00 pm on Georgia Public Broadcasting.
Fashioned after Broadway’s Tony Awards, the Shuler Hensley Awards celebrate excellence in high school musical theater. Prince competed against 69 other schools across the state with their production of
Seussical
.

Joining their classmate, Thompson Sewell, at the Shuler-Hensley awards ceremony will be Prince sophomores Riley Wilson and Jack Johnston. They have been selected as Shuler Student Ensemble members. Riley and Jack will rehearse and perform the opening and closing acts of the Shuler Hensley Awards ceremony with other talented students from across the state of Georgia. The
ceremony will be held on April 19th at the Cobb Energy Center and will be broadcast live at 7:00 pm on Georgia Public Broadcasting.

Two Prince Avenue Christian School seniors recently signed to play sports at the college level. Grant Roland signed to play football at Grand View University. Dalton Meeler signed to play basketball at Piedmont College.

Ivy Meeks Selected as Positive Athlete for Northeast Georgia
|
|
Prince sophomore Ivy Meeks was recently selected to represent Prince Avenue Christian School as a finalist in Northeast Georgia Positive Athlete.
Positive Athlete America
is a movement by high character professional athletes to promote the benefits of positivity of young athletes. Ivy will advance to represent PACS at the state level competition for Positive Athlete.

Meghan Hudson Receives
Above and Beyond Award

Prince Avenue Christian School Visual Arts teacher Meghan Hudson recently received the Above and Beyond Award. This award recognizes teachers and staff members through a nomination and evaluation process conducted by members of the school’s Administrative Leadership Team. This individual is considered based on attitude and commitment, work performance, interpersonal skills, and personal traits.

Prince Alumna and Published Author Mez Blume Visits Prince During Recent Book Tour
|
|
Prince Alumna Mary Elizabeth Blume Stead is a published author of children’s literature, and her book,
Katie Watson and the Painter’s Plot
, will be placed in the Prince library and on the PACS summer reading list. Mary Beth attended Prince for 8 years and graduated as Valedictorian of the Class of 2006.
Mary Elizabeth now goes by the pen-name “Mez”, and she resides with her husband, Gordon, in the United Kingdom. She recently included Prince Avenue as one of the stops on her spring book tour.
Mez explained the creative writing process to lower school students by helping them to see that every story starts with a simple idea. She encouraged students that they are all capable of creating stories of their own.
Mez also shared with them the greatest inspiration of all. "We were all made by an author. God truly is the best author of all. There is no story great than His, and nothing compares to getting to know the Author of our own story."
Mez took time to personally meet students, answer questions, and autograph books and bookmarks.
