Help a child attending Arcola Elementary School
get a great start to the school year: Adopt a backpack filled with school supplies! Simply take an envelope from the Outreach table in the hallway, it has all the directions you need (suggested donation is $15). The Outreach team will purchase the supplies and we'll fill the backpacks in August. 80% of Arcola students qualify for subsidized meals - so some families would not otherwise afford needed school supplies. Give Choir a Try this Summer!
Our summer choir begins with a rehearsal at 9:00 a.m. on Sunday mornings in the choir room, followed by the 10:00 a.m. Eucharist. All are most welcome to sing in the summer choir -- in fact, this is a wonderful time to "try out" the choir without the commitment of a mid-week rehearsal. Mark your Calendars for an Organ Recital!
On Friday evening, September 1 at 7:30pm (the beginning of the Labor Day weekend) Teddy Guerrant will play an organ recital entitled "A Gallic Sampler: French Organ Music Across Four Centuries" including works by de Grigny, Balbastre, Lefebure-Wely, Franck, Saint-Saens, Widor, Vierne, Mulet, Dupre, Langlais, and Durufle. The French theme will continue into the light reception following with petits fours and champagne, so put this on your calendars now as a fun and festive way to kick off the end-of-the-summer holiday weekend!
Movie, Dessert, and Interfaith Discussion:
On 30 July 2017 at 6:30 p.m. The Interfaith Circle will be hosting a showing of the movie "The Saint and the Sultan."(59 minutes) We will meet in the Camillus Room of St. Camillus Church, 1500 St. Camillus Drive, Silver Spring, MD 20903, (just off New Hampshire Avenue inside the beltway). The movie is based on the visit of St. Francis of Assisi to the Sultan of Egypt. For further information, please contract Charlie Briggs ([email protected]).

Isaiah 55:10-13
For as the rain and the snow come down from heaven, and do not return there until they have watered the earth, making it bring forth and sprout, giving seed to the sower and bread to the eater, so shall my word be that goes out from my mouth; it shall not return to me empty, but it shall accomplish that which I purpose, and succeed in the thing for which I sent it. For you shall go out in joy, and be led back in peace; the mountains and the hills before you shall burst into song, and all the trees of the field shall clap their hands. Instead of the thorn shall come up the cypress; instead of the brier shall come up the myrtle; and it shall be to the Lord for a memorial, for an everlasting sign that shall not be cut off.

That same day Jesus went out of the house and sat beside the sea. Such great crowds gathered around him that he got into a boat and sat there, while the whole crowd stood on the beach. And he told them many things in parables, saying: "Listen! A sower went out to sow. And as he sowed, some seeds fell on the path, and the birds came and ate them up. Other seeds fell on rocky ground, where they did not have much soil, and they sprang up quickly, since they had no depth of soil. "Hear then the parable of the sower. When anyone hears the word of the kingdom and does not understand it, the evil one comes and snatches away what is sown in the heart; this is what was sown on the path.
