Construction Begins on City's New Town Center

On June 30, the eve of the city's 5th anniversary, we celebrated the groundbreaking of our new town center which will also serve as Peachtree Corners' downtown. On that rainy Friday afternoon last month we also celebrated the tangible beginnings of the community's vision for a city center that will serve as a gathering place for our citizens.

When the town center is complete next fall, it will feature entertainment venues, restaurants, shops, office space, townhomes - and a town green designed to be the heart of a community gathering area. The town green will also be the site of a veterans' monument which will honor our men and women who served or are serving our country.

The additional southbound merge lane is now open.
S.R. 141 Merge Lane Now Open

The project to add another southbound merge lane from Peachtree Parkway onto the controlled access portion of S.R. 141 is now complete.

For the thousands of commuters who regularly travel southbound on this busy artery during morning rush hour, merging from two lanes to one has been a major headache - now those days are over.

The interns walked the stream with city and county staff, learning about habitat, floodplain, land development and environmental mitigation.
Interns Study Stream Restoration Project
On June 27, the city's six summer interns examined the Allenhurst Stream Restoration project, which was completed in 2015 under Gwinnett County's Watershed Improvement Program. The interns were introduced to the changes in stormwater runoff caused by development.

"The Allenhurst restoration was a wonder project that helped to stabilize the severe bank erosion, restore the stream channel and reconnect the stream channels to the floodplain," explained David Chastant, the city's Planning & Development Manager. "The interns not only saw the physical changes to the channel but were able to see that vegetation, fish and other wildlife have returned to the area."
Regulations on Backyard Chickens
What is the city's ordinance on keeping chickens on residential property?

The keeping of chickens for personal use is permitted in most of Peachtree Corners' single-family zoning districts. The rules require that the property be at least 3 acres in size and that any structure housing the chickens is at least 100 feet from all property lines. For questions, please contact the Planning & Zoning Department at City Hall, 678-691-1200.

Before Placing Bulk Items for Curbside Pickup ...

We hear this question quite often - can I place large furniture and appliance items at the curb for pickup by my sanitation company?  The answer is yes but there are specific requirements for this type of pickup.

Carbon Monoxide Detection Code Requirements Updated

Carbon Monoxide (CO), often referred to as "the silent killer," claims hundreds of lives and sickens thousands of individuals every year.

CO is a colorless, odorless, and poisonous gas that results from the incomplete burning of common fuels such as natural gas, oil, wood, or coal.    When inhaled, CO enters the bloodstream and reduces the ability of the blood to carry oxygen to vital organs such as the heart and brain. When this happens, the body just goes to sleep and you never wake up! ( Richard Roberts, Honeywell Life Safety )

Waste Pro offers an extra service that includes the pickup of yard trimmings and other yard waste.
Curbside Yard Trimming Pickup Service Reminder

For an additional charge, Waste Pro will pick up your yard trimmings. If you have added the Pickup Service, please remember it includes up to 10 bags per household.

Residents may also use a labeled container marked "yard trimmings" for yard waste pickup. Also accepted: bundled sticks that are no longer than 3 feet and 50 lbs. per bundle.

Green Committee Gives Crooked Creek a Spring Cleaning

Recently volunteers rolled up their sleeves, waded in the water and gave a portion of Crooked Creek a well-deserved spring cleaning.

Volunteers removed 12 bags of trash, a car tire and miscellaneous other pieces of debris.  The event was organized by the Peachtree Corners Green Committee and Gwinnett Clean and Beautiful. Glenfield Capital's 'The Corners' Wins Prestigious TOBY Award

For commercial real estate owners, being selected for a TOBY Award is the highest honor in the industry. Atlanta-based Glenfield Capital recently won the TOBY award in the "Under 100,000 square feet" category for its property at  6525 The CornersThe property is managed by CBRE and owned by Glenfield Capital .

Since Glenfield Capital acquired the 6525 The Corners property in late 2014, the firm has invested more than $1 million in renovations and improvements, including the addition of a state-of-the-art conference center.

"Glenfield's investment in the city is significant," said Mayor Mason. "New offices can be built in Atlanta where rents exceed the cost of construction but Glenfield bet on Peachtree Corners because they saw the value in purchasing older office space in our city and renovating them."

In addition to 6525 The Corners, Glenfield Capital owns seven other buildings in Peachtree Corners, totaling 550,000 square feet. The four buildings that comprise "The Corners" were about 70 percent occupied when Glenfield acquired the assets in 2015 - the current occupancy rate is near 80 percent.

Glenfield Capital is also active in the community. Its managing partner, James Cate, received UPCCA's 2016 Business Neighborhood Partnership Award, presented at the organization's  annual Star Awards Dinner last fall;  sponsored the Norcross High School Foundation fundraiser; donated the use of its lawn at 6025/6075 The Corners Parkway for the Peachtree Corners Festival and sponsored the Festival's Friday evening concert.

The TOBY Awards honor excellence in commercial building management and operations in specific categories of building size or type. To win an International TOBY Award, a property first must win both local and regional competitions. Judging is based on a number of factors including community impact, accessibility and energy management systems.
