It's summer, and we hope you're enjoying vacations, volunteering, and summer jobs. At Girls of Steel our summer season began with a bang right before Memorial Day weekend with four awesome outreach events followed by the WOW competition! The rest of the summer is already full, so read on to find out about Girls of Steel in DC and in Pittsburgh. Also look for information about Pittsburgh's first official off-season competition, the Steel City Showdown, scheduled for August 5, 2017 at the Cohon University Center at Carnegie Mellon University.

The Girls of Steel qualified as one of the 32 teams to attend the WOW competition held at Otterbein University on May 27th.

Congratulations, Seniors!
Five Girls of Steel seniors graduated this year and they're attending great schools in the Pittsburgh area. Arushi is attending Carnegie Mellon University. Cheyenne is attending Slippery Rock University. Gayathri is also attending Carnegie Mellon University. Jean Marie (JET) is attending University of Pittsburgh, Johnstown. Jisue is attending CalU. We wish everyone the best of luck. Keep in touch!

Girls Maker Night: Robot Chassis Workshop at Assemble
The Girls of Steel held a chassis building workshop at Assemble on May 22, 2017.
Robot Demo for Ambassadors
We met the group of 33 ambassadors from around the world who visited NREC during their Experience Pittsburgh tour on May 23, 2017. Here's the link to the story on WESA 90.5, Pittsburgh's NPR news station, including a photo of the girls.
Remake Learning Days Robot Chassis Workshop
In addition to appearing on Pittsburgh Today Live on May 8th and at the Remake Learning Days Kickoff on May 15th to promote Pittsburgh's 2017 Remake Learning Days events, we hosted our own event, a Robot Chassis Workshop, at Carnegie Mellon University on May 24, 2017. It was a fun event attended by boys and girls from Pittsburgh with Girls of Steel high school mentors.
FIRST LEGO League Jr Demo Day
On May 25, 2017 we hosted our 3rd annual FLL Jr Demo Day for the 30 students, their teachers, parents, and friends. There were five Girls of Steel FLL Jr teams from 3 local schools: FLL Jr 7397, The Fluffy Kittens from Providence Heights Alpha School; FLL Jr 7398, The Falk Falcons, from the Falk School; and FLL Jr 2793 The GLIMPP Group, FLL Jr 3813, The LEGO Ninjas, and FLL Jr 10833, The LTB team all from Franklin Elementary School.

FIRST LEGO League Teams
The next FLL season will begin in August 2017 with a summer camp (August 7-11, 2017) where campers will learn FLL skills to prepare to join one of our teams or another one.
