Welcome to the Eat Right Be Fit Live Well monthly link roundup.

Each week I read many interesting articles relating to nutrition, fitness and wellness. Here are some of my favorites from the past month. While every article may not be relevant to your personal circumstance, I hope at least one will spark your interest and provide you with a healthy tip you can incorporate into your daily routine.

Best,

Foods linked to better brainpower:  Protect yourself against cognitive decline by indulging in these 5 foods often. I eat them daily. How about you? (Harvard Health Publication)

These 5 Foods Will Help Give You Gorgeous Hair: Forget expensive shampoos and conditioners, nourish your locks from the inside out with these delicious foods. (Cleanplates.com)

Some food choices (chocolate!) really may help you age better:  Food is a powerful medicine with few, if any, side effects. To lower your risk of heart disease, stroke, cancers and type II diabetes fill your plate with these gems often, dark chocolate included. (The Washington Post)

15 Sugary Drinks That are (Almost) as Bad for You as Soda:  We know soda is bad for us but these sweetened beverages are NO better. Avoid them all. In fact, avoid most liquid calories for optimal health. (Health.com)

Two big studies bolster the claim that coffee - even decaf - is good for you:  Coffee lovers rejoice. Drinking BLACK coffee daily, regular or decaffeinated, reduces your risk of death from heart, respiratory and kidney disease, type II diabetes and even cancer. Remember to hold the artificial sweeteners, sugar and loads of cream. (LA Times)

Fitness Trackers: Wrong Calorie Counts:   Rely on a fitness tracker to track your calories? If so, they aren't very accurate which may help explain why you're not losing weight. (Drweil.com)

The Chemicals in Your Mac and Cheese:  Toxic chemicals known as phthalates found in plastic products, some water bottles, cosmetics and yes FOOD can disrupt male hormones like testosterone. They've also been linked to genital birth defects in infant boys and learning and behavior problems in older children. One of the biggest sources in our food is processed cheese products. So, for so many reasons, please stop eating and feeding your children packaged mac and cheese! If you want this comfort food, make it yourself ... of course with whole wheat pasta. :) (NY Times)

Lightheaded? Top 5 reasons you might feel woozy:  Getting lightheaded when you stand up can be very dangerous. Here are 5 reasons why this may happen and what to do about it. (Harvard Health)

The Fake Rolex of Canned Foods:  Evidently 95% of San Marzano tomatoes sold in the US are fake. Who knew? Not even chefs. When buying canned tomatoes, I typically buy Muir Glen Organic from California. In my opinion, they have much better flavor than canned tomatoes from Italy.  (www.tastecooking.com)

The Power of Mindfulness: What You Practice Grows Stronger:  Learn more about the benefits of being mindful from world-renowned Dr. Shauna Shapiro's Ted talk. I highly recommend reading and listening to her work. I often find "being present" very difficult to achieve but I continue to work at it daily. Practicing mindfulness just 10 minutes daily has helped me tremendously. Give it a try.  (Youtube.com)
