Making Stock Donations
Several of our members fulfill their temple financial obligations through donations of appreciated stock. We receive these gratefully.

When a donation is made into our brokerage account, the donor is not identified. The only way we know who made the donation is when the donor informs us.

If you have made a stock donation to PTBE and have not received an acknowledgment, it means we don't know who the donor is.  Please contact Eric Stone with the name of the stock you donated and either the number of shares or the approximate value. Thank you!

Informational Meeting on Reform CA
Thursday, July 20
7:00 pm at PTBE
Join Rabbi Sara for information and conversation about Reform CA. Reform CA is an organizing project of the RAC (Religious Action Center) that seeks to cross lines of congregation, faith, race, and class in order to build a more compassionate California. PTBE is joining this effort, and we would love your help.

Tisha B'Av: From Sadness to Strength
Monday, July 31
7:00 pm at PTBE
On the Jewish Holy Day of Tisha b'Av we reflect on the Jewish experience of tragedy, and seek to find comfort in building a better world. Join Rabbi Sara Mason-Barkin and Rabbi Lisa Delson from Peninsula Temple Sholom for an evening of reflection, prayer, learning, conversation, and connection around our core values and concerns. Inspired by the work of Reform CA, we will use this holy day to uncover our common concerns and chart a path toward action.

Reform CA Lobby Day
Tuesday, August 22
10:00 am to 3:00 pm in Sacramento
We would love to put together a congregational delegation to go to Sacramento to speak with Senate President Pro Tem Kevin de Leon, learn a bit about the 2017 California World We Want Legislative Agenda, and then go lobby our elected representatives directly. It is thrilling to see the power of Reform CA and to connect with people from across the state.

For more information contact Rabbi Sara.

Teacher Positions Available
NewTorah teaches, 'vishinantem l'vaneicha,' that it us upon us to teach the vibrancy and joy of our Jewish tradition to our children. This commandment is at the core of what we do at Peninsula Temple Beth El, and we are seeking creative and energetic teachers/role models from within our community to work with our students this year. These roles vary from traditional Sunday School Judaica teacher, to working with our Family Education Program, and working with middle schoolers.
  • Applicants must be active Jewish role models who are passionate about inspiring children to engage with Judaism in the classroom and beyond.
  • Applicants must enjoy working with children of all ages, creating exciting learning environments, and experimenting with new teaching techniques; and they must have strong communication skills.
  • Applicants must provide a resume listing relevant teaching, Judaic, and childcare experience, with at least two references.
Positions and Hours:
  • Sunday, 9:30 to 11:30 am (K-2 classroom teachers)
  • Saturday, 9:00 am to noon (Family Education Program: Pre-K, 4-5th grades)
  • Wednesday, 6:00 to 8:00 pm (Middle School Program, dinner included)
We offer competitive hourly wages. All positions are part time.
Contact Rabbi Sara or call 650-341-7701 to discuss further.

PTBE Book Club

Tuesday, August 8, 7:00 pm
Here I Am by Jonathan Safran Foer

Join in a spirited discussion of Foer's latest book led by Rabbi Lisa Kingston and Lisa Meltzer Penn.  Foer's title,  Here I Am, is taken from moments in Torah where our ancestors have responded to God's call. In this modern Jewish novel, Foer asks us what calls reach our complex Jewish identities today.

Set against the backdrop of an upcoming bar mitzvah, a failing marriage, and a catastrophic earthquake in Israel, we are asked to consider what is compelling about Judaism today. Critic Maureen Corrigan calls Here I Am a profound work about the claims of history, identity, and family.

The book is available through your local bookstore or through Amazon.

Help us plan, RSVP.
