The Mystery of "the One Whom Jesus Loved"
Do you love a good mystery? One of the enduring mysteries of the Bible is the identity of "the Beloved Disciple," called "the One whom Jesus loved" several times in the Gospel of John. First, did Jesus really have a favorite? And if so, who was it, and why the mysterious references to the One without a name? T
his Sunday, July 16, at 9:30 a.m., we'll explore the mystery of the Beloved Disciple and the truth of God's Infinite Love.

A Note From
Pastor Bev
One of the greatest joys of coming to church week after week, year after year, is seeing our children grow up, blossom, and flourish in this caring community. Parents have told me that their children get them out of bed on Sunday morning to come to church!
Our wonderful Children's Program teachers, Ryan Finnane and Sydney Greenlee, have made the church feel like a welcoming home for all children. They have lived the message of inclusive love, while building skills through art and play. They have grown up and blossomed in the process, and it's time to send them off to college with a celebration this Sunday. We will miss them! We'll have a cake, special music, and cards to pass around, and if your children would like to bring a card, picture, or photo for them, that would be lovely.
What a blessing to be the church together!

Our country, for a way forward where we live our values of justice and equality for all people; for a well-informed citizenry; for government of, by, and for the people, with leaders of integrity, and for an end to hate crimes;
The refugees and displaced
, almost 1 out of 100 people in the world today, for safety, homes, the basics of life, and freedom from being scapegoated;
Our Muslim neighbors, subject to Islamophobia and hate crimes;
Our planet, the world's poor, all who suffer from disruptive climate change, may we continue our work to keep the planet livable;
The PC(USA), for the way forward to be illuminated, and for our mission and ministries to be salt and light for the world;
Dr. Doug Tilton, our PC(USA) mission co-worker in Southern Africa;
Our church, for the Spirit to continue to guide us and fill us with energy for mission!
Please take time this week to pray for those on our list.

They're going to college!
Our dedicated Children's Program teachers are going to college! Sydney will be attending Tulane University and Ryan will be attending University of Wisconsin-Madison.
Let's all wish them the best this Sunday, thank them for their faithful service, and make sure to tell them to come back and visit often. They will be missed, but we'll make sure that they know they will be in our prayers as they start this new chapter.

Let's Talk Church Finance discussion is scheduled for Sunday, August 27th after the worship service. The Session has now studied our church's finances in depth, and will be sending a report of the study to the congregation with findings to share. Meanwhile, a helpful resource was presented at the June 1 educational discussion meeting and is available here:

Ted Talk Worth Watching-
How to engage in conversation with those who HATE and make progress towards understanding
Remember the Ted Talk Bev mentioned in her sermon last Sunday?
For those of you who did not hear about it, provided below is the link to the Ted Talk by Megan Phelps-Roper, who grew up in the Westboro Baptist Church, more a hate group than a church. She was on the "picket line" from the age of 5 holding signs she couldn't read that said God hates gay people. Listen and learn as Megan shares her story about how conversations on Twitter helped her come to a new understanding and leave this hate group, which was her family and her life. Maybe it's time to sign up for Twitter and take part in these conversations?

The Genesis of Exodus
, a new interactive online resource, seeks answers to this question. It offers a wealth of background and tools to help Presbyterians and others understand and respond to immigration issues. Presbyterian Disaster Assistance is doing great work on immigration issues!

Presbyterians Gathered for a
Successful
Big Tent
Our denomination meets for our world-wide convention, called General Assembly, in even years, and in odd years, we have a smaller but powerful meeting called the Big Tent. This year's Big Tent, held in St. Louis, MO. last week, featured worship, workshops, and speakers from around the country, and was an introduction for the Hands and Feet initiative. The focus theme was "Race, Reconciliation, and the Reformation." Click on this link to read more about

Big Tent workshops addressed many current and pressing issues, from the Israel/Palestine conflict to Climate Change. Those attending had the opportunity to hear the pros and cons of divesting from fossil fuel companies. Read more to see the discussion.
Speakers and workshops also addressed oppression and racism and how to keep up momentum to end them. Panelists discussed the shooting of a young teenager and what communities and churches are doing to address racism and oppression. Read more to see the full story.

Wil has moved!
Wil would like you to know that he has moved to Alma Via in Terra Linda. YES, he still plans to come to church! At Alma Via, he'll have 3 meals a day, and so now he'll be inviting US to eat with him! Please call the church office to get his new cell phone number.
And thank him for his Food Barrel ministry!
Last Wednesday, Wil turned in 58 pounds to the Marin Food Bank!
