Red Wing, Minnesota. That is where we were on July 3. My son-in-law's family was in the Minneapolis area visiting from Seattle. Sure they have the 600' majestic Space Needle with a rotating Sky City restaurant that is breathtaking overlooking an evening sunset. Been there! Then there is the famous Pike's Place Fish Market on the Seattle pier. The fishmongers throw wild Alaskan Salmon that customers have purchased before they are wrapped. Experienced that!

2017 Henry C. Spicer Scholarship Winners
The North Central region continues to invest in future spiritual leaders by offering the Henry C. Spicer Scholarship. Graduating high school seniors from our region's churches are eligible to make application for the one-time non-renewable scholarship to help with the costs of continuing education. The proposed area of study need not be ministry related, as past recipients have declared future plans in a diversity of fields. We rejoice that our Lord may use our young people in any chosen vocation.
This year's committee included Gerad Hall of Wildwood Baptist Church in Moline, IL, Andrew Powell of Grace Church of Mahomet, IL, and myself. As in the past, each applicant was evaluated on the basis of 1) personal testimony and church recommendations, 2) academic performance, 3) servant leadership, both church and community related, 4) extra-curricular activities, 5) future pursuits, and 6) financial need.
The committee was encouraged by reading through the testimonies and future plans of each applicant. Due to strong returns on invested funds over the past year, we were able to award four $500 scholarships. Erin Blanchard, Madelynn Bursley, Samuel Callahan, and Sarah Schroden are recipients of this year's Henry C. Spicer Scholarship.
