Russell's Ritings,
SOME PEOPLE THINK THE PREACHER IS THE "MINISTER", BUT WE ALL ARE MINISTERS -
MINISTRY IS...
Caring for a sick friend
Helping out at the neighborhood food bank even when I'm too tired to cook for myself
MINISTRY IS...
Loving my friends and, at the least, forgiving my enemies
Listening twice as much as I speak
MINISTRY IS...
Giving the other person the larger half of the last piece of pie at the potluck
Calling out clearly the injustices we see around us
MINISTRY IS...
Seeing and listening through a child's eyes and ears
Laughing at our own inconsistencies but never laughing at another's
MINISTRY IS...
Pouring new role models into tired old vessels
Catching the vision of a new day
Passing that new day along to the ones who run, stumble, and fly through our paths
This Sunday we continue in our summer series on the David stories. The sermon is "David and the Ark" (II Samuel 6:9).
"and the folks are friendly"

THE BLESSING OF THE ANIMALS
Sunday, July 16th - 8:30 Outdoor Service
|
UMCE will have a special Blessing of the Animals on Sunday, July 16th at the 8:30 outdoor service. All critters are welcome - furry, fuzzy or scaly.
Please join us for this fun celebration of the pets that bring so much joy to our lives. If your pet would not be fond of such an event, bring their favorite toy and we will bless that in their honor. Worship music for this service will be provided by Terry Vogt, Michael Fields, and Denwood Butler.
Carl Heckendorf, a licensed veterinarian, will be administering free rabies shots (and certificates) for dogs that need it.
If you would like a free rabies shot for your dog(s) please sign up in advance by calling the church office or by signing the sign-up sheet that will be circulated at Sunday Worship Services this coming Sunday, July 9th.

BOARD OF DIRECTORS POSITION WITH
EVERGREEN CHRISTIAN OUTREACH
|
Our church has long been a supporter of Evergreen Christian Outreach (EChO), an organization dedicated to serving our Evergreen neighbors when they need help. EChO's bylaws state that it is "a charity following the Gospel of Jesus Christ that calls us to 'feed the hungry, give drink to the thirsty, welcome the stranger, clothe the naked, care for the sick and imprisoned' (Matthew 25:35-36); and 'to love one another as He has loved us' (John 13:34). To fulfill that purpose, EChO's stated mission is "to provide assistance to residents of Evergreen mountain communities who are unemployed, under-employed, dealing with a long term illness, or experiencing other forms of personal crisis."
This congregation has not only supported EChO generously with donations of money and food, but has also traditionally had one of its members on the EChO Board of Directors. That person at present is JoAnn Vogt. However, JoAnn's three-year term ends this fall. The Board no longer automatically includes a representative of each Evergreen-area church; instead, EChO seeks to recruit directors with expertise in fundraising, marketing, nonprofit financial issues and the like. Recognizing this focus, JoAnn has told the Board that she would look within her own church to see whether anyone with such qualifications would be interested in applying for Board membership to succeed her when her term ends.
The Board meets on the third Thursday evening of each month. New directors are elected by the Board after submitting information about themselves and their interests to the Board's nominating committee and meeting with the Board president (currently Mark Hines, husband of our 8:30 pianist Karen Hines).

WELCOME NEW MEMBER
DOUG CARRINGTON!
|
|
I am a native Kansas Jayhawker growing up in Topeka, Kansas. I moved to Colorado 27 years ago and have resided in Broomfield and Arvada. I recently moved from Arvada to Evergreen and have enjoyed getting know many of the members at UMCE!
Over a 40 year period I have worked in the Telecom, Financial Service and Transportation industries where I held a variety of positions. I retired two years ago and current working part as a Substitute Teacher in Jeffco Public Schools.
I enjoy family time, fishing, hiking, outdoor activates, handy work around the house, dinning out, singing, live music and reading. I have three children. Two live and work in California and my youngest daughter currently lives with me here in Evergreen.
I have enjoyed my experience in becoming a member UMCE. I see a small church community that is full of love and caring for the Evergreen community. I look forward in serving the Lord and my fellow members.
