City receives $1.7M Safe Routes to School funding
|
|
The city is excited to share that we were awarded Safe Routes to School federal funding that will allow us to build a protected route to an elementary school, and will also serve all residents by making key trail connections throughout the city.
"By building a more walkable and bikeable city we can improve health and wellness, ensure safer routes to schools and parks and boost the overall quality of life," said Mayor Ken Shetter. "There is even a positive correlation between walkability and housing values. The North Central Texas Council of Governments grant, combined with the investment the city is making in the project, represents a major step forward for the City of Burleson."

Serve your community - volunteer to be on a board or commission
|
|
The city is currently taking applications until August 7 to serve on one of the many boards and commissions.
Their are currently open seats on the Building Codes and Standards Board, Cemetery Board, Library Board, Old Town Development Standards Review Committee, Park Board, Planning and Zoning Commission and Zoning Board of Adjustment.

Johnson Avenue to be closed July 11 - approximately Aug. 8
|
|
After many delays the barriers are in place to close Johnson Ave from July 11
approximately August 8 to allow for the construction of storm drains.
Patrons will still have access to the Burleson Public Library, Warren Park and local businesses during the closure.
*Note - Please do not use the the Library parking lot as a cut through, it is very dangerous due to the amount of parents and children that are walking into/out of the library.

Tijerina named Employee of the Quarter
|
|
Providing excellent service to both employees and applicants along with her ability to manage multiple tasks at one time are a few of the reasons Mayra Tijerina was named the City of Burleson's employee of the quarter.
Mayra started with the city's human resources department in February 2013, and she has excelled in providing great customer support in her role. She also volunteered to step in and assist when the department was short a staff member during the busiest two weeks of the year in the recruiting area.
"Mayra stepped in immediately without hesitation," states her nomination form. "She kept the hiring process moving forward without a hitch."
Mayra served as the lead in getting all of the summer recreation staff hired and ready to start at the beginning of summer. She also assured each new hire had all the details needed for their first paychecks. She volunteered to assist and train a new hire while keeping her duties, along with her great sense of humor and work ethic.
"I love working in HR because every day and situation is different," said Mayra. "I enjoy helping others, and if I don't know the answer, I will make sure to find out."

|

The Texas Department of Public Safety reports indicate that more motor vehicle thefts and burglaries are committed in July than in any other month.
- Remove or hide your valuables
- Always lock your vehicle
- Never leave your keys in your vehicle
The Tri-County Auto Theft Task Force reminds you to remove your valuables and your keys and always secure your vehicle.
