"The Danville-Boyle County Chamber of Commerce exists to advance the prosperity and well-being of the business community, particularly its members, with a goal of improving the quality of life in this community."

Paula's Ponderings
Hello Chamber Members,

Congratulations to Stuart Powell and the airport board for Danville-Boyle County Airport, Stuart Powell Field, receiving a $750,000 grant from the Federal Aviation Administration and the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet, Department of Aviation. It will construct a 10 unit t-hangar. They also recently received another grant for $789,000 to build another corporate hangar. According to Stuart  Powell our airport is "one of the leading general aviation airports" of its size in the country. Read more  here from The Advocate-Messenger.

An engineer  who studied the costs behind Danville's sewer system says Danville should increase their sewer rates. Read The Advocate-Messenger story on her report to the city commission here.

This is a great article from the Bluegrass ADD on one of our industries and why Meggitt is poised for growth in central Kentucky.  When you think of Danville, Kentucky, high-tech aeronautics may not the first thing to come to mind.  Danville may seem like a strange choice for two Meggitt facilities.  They have both a carbon production facility, as well as a distribution and receiving facility. See why HR Manager Mike Gay thinks Danville is a perfect choice here.

What good news do you want to share on your business? Let us know!

Watch for a new program that your Chamber will be offering in the next few weeks. It may save many of our businesses up to 30% on your health insurance!

Sincerely,

What's New in Retail: Try It Before You Buy It

Do you allow your customers to try your merchandise before they buy it? One retailer is - and it's paying off.

DigitalBridge, a U.K.-based startup that's looking to break into the home décor market has a solution for merchants that sell furniture, reports  pymnts.com .

DigitalBridge offers retailers the option to integrate DigitalBridge's software into their website. This way, companies can offer a try-before-you-buy home décor tool.

Customers can custom design rooms through the use of computer vision and machine learning. They simply upload a photo of the room they plan to decorate and digitally remove all furniture, wallpaper and home décor. From there, they can style the space with furniture from the retailer's online gallery.

Most of DigitalBridge's competitors incorporate an augmented reality (AR) into its software; however, DigitalBridge decided to forgo this. "AR is a great technology but it requires a dedicated mobile app, which all retailers dislike," David Levine, founder of DigitalBridge told pymnts.com. "Apps are expensive to build, maintain and are disruptive to the buying journey," he added.

This unique solution will help retailers expand their business through a hands-off automated approach to selling, giving their customers a unique shopping experience.
