Dear Students, Parents, Teachers & Friends of Education,

Georgia Grown Distinction

Barrow County Schools is one of three systems in the state to receive the Georgia Grown Schools of Distinction for efforts to feed the students in Barrow County with the best products Georgia has to offer. BCSS has also been selected for "Feed my school" for a week in which Statham Elementary will be the host school. "We try to make 100% of school meals from Georgia Grown products" says School Nutrition Director Pamela LeFrois. Apalachee High and Bramlett Elementary are recognized as Georgia Grown Taste Test Kitchens. The "Test Kitchen Initiative" promotes local and healthy eating in Georgia's Schools. Starting from the ground up, Barrow students are growing gardens in 13 of our schools with their produce being served in the cafeteria. BCSS School Nutrition has won the Golden Radish three years in a row.

We are fortunate to have over 150 Business and Community Partners in Education throughout our charter school district. Barrow County Schools would like to recognize 2 Barrow partners whose leadership in this program reaches out to EVERY school and program, Akins Ford and Chick-fil-A.

Akins Ford was a founding Partner In Education in 1991, when this program began as a joint venture between the Chamber of Commerce, and the school system. Chick-fil-A joined the Partner In Education program in 2011. After this, Akins Ford and Chick-fil-A teamed up to begin annual Teacher and Staff Appreciation Breakfasts at EVERY SCHOOL EVERY YEAR.

Partner collaborations include service and expertise shared on advisory committees and school governance teams. They are volunteers during school events, participate in career day as presenters, donate gift certificates, coupons, food, or other items to promote student achievement and staff appreciation and are mentors.

Their doors have been open to job shadowing by students, as well as, being an employer of Barrow students and families. We thank them for making a difference in the lives of Barrow students, staff and families each day as Barrow BOLD Partners In Education.
