WDMA Releases 2017 U.S. Industry Market Study
All Segments Show Continued Growth in 2016

[Washington] The Window & Door Manufacturers Association (WDMA) has released the WDMA 2017 U.S. Industry Market Study.  This report provides data and insights needed to understand the industry's performance, key trends, and future direction. The report is based on extensive industry input for product shipments in 2016 and was prepared, researched and analyzed by The Farnsworth Group.

This report delivers timely information on residential/light commercial window, patio door, residential entry door and interior architectural door market trends and product relationships; regional data, historic data for 2014 and 2015, and forecast data for 2017 through 2019.

Residential window shipments continue to see positive growth with an increase of 5.7% in 2016, amounting to more than 43.2 million units shipped across the nation. Looking forward, national growth is expected to increase another 5.6% in 2017 before trailing off somewhat in 2019 to 4.6% growth.

In 2016, shipments of side-hinged entry doors increased by 6.1% to 9.7 million units on the national level, alleviating any concerns over the decrease in units shipped between 2014 and 2015. Based on the analysis of the data gathers, annual growth is forecasted to climb to 5.9% in 2017 before declining to a modest 5.2% growth in 2019.

Architectural interior flush doors recovered from a decline the previous year by growing 4.5% in 2016 with nearly 2.9 million units shipped, while stile and rail doors continued its upward trend with a 6.6% increase with nearly 0.44 million units shipped.  Annual growth of flush doors is forecasted to be 4% in 2017 before declining to 1% in 2019.  Stile and rail doors are also forecasted to grow 4% in 2017 and decline to 1% by 2019.

The WDMA 2017 Industry Market Study also contains key data and forecasts for commercial shop-built windows, as well as sliding and hinged patio doors.   The complete study is available to purchase online in the WDMA bookstore.  Individual market segments (windows/patio doors, entry doors and architectural doors) are also available separately.
