USERVEUTAH POWER OF SERVICE AWARD

Norma is pictured with Dennis Hanson, Executive Director of CWCIC, Brian Parnell, Domestic Violence Program Administrator with the Department of Human Services/DCFS, and Laurie Loader, Shelter Manager at CWCIC.
Over the course of nearly three decades of volunteer service at the  Center for Women and Children in Crisis , Norma Paramore has done everything from delivering mail and answering the phone to comforting rape victims and helping women escape abusive relationships.

In recognition of this amazing service, UServeUtah  was honored to  award the Power of Service Award to Norma at the July Commission meeting. This award is presented three times annually to a volunteer who shows significant commitment to their community and demonstrates the power of volunteer service through their activities.

UTAH AMERICORPS MEMBER OF THE MONTH

The Utah AmeriCorps Member of the Month for August is  Kenny Henager ! Kenny currently serves as an AmeriCorps Field Boss with  Utah Conservation Corps  (UCC). He is passionate about Utah public lands and helping improve the quality of these beautiful environments for everyone to enjoy. He goes above and beyond to provide mentorship to other members and to provide leadership on conservation projects throughout the state.

Kenny grew up in Utah, where his love for the outdoors and service began. He served his first AmeriCorps term with UCC in 2015. He then went up to serve with Montana Conservation Corps before returning to Utah for his current term. Kenny chose UCC to serve his last term so he could help the organization that started his love for service. He hopes to be able to stay in the conservation field in the future to help others experience service through conservation and stewardship.

AmeriCorps, also known as the domestic Peace Corps, engages thousands of Americans nationwide in intensive, results-driven service in areas of education, public safety, health, and the environment. AmeriCorps members serve for up to a year and receive a modest living allowance, training,  and an education scholarship to pay for college or pay back student loans.
