Due to Canon Jill Mathis' retirement at the end of this year, the Office of the Diocese of Pennsylvania is posting the position of Canon for Transitions. We are also posting a newly restructured position of Canon for Mission. During the pilgrimage, I listened to the needs of our diocese, and as a result, we significantly restructured a number of positions. All of the new positions reflect a servant ministry and are designed to support the life our congregations. The Canon for Mission emerged from re-envisioning the Canon for Congregational Life position so that it best meets the needs you expressed to me. The ministry of Congregational Life will be shepherded by Canon Wamsley along with the robust Congregational Life and Redevelopment Committee (a group of 30 lay and ordained).
The position of Canon for Mission is a reflection of our desire to further both the work of evangelism and our Gospel call to mission. The new Canon will focus on the needs of rural, suburban and inner city parishes. They will collaborate with the community and congregations toward addressing those societal ills that affect all of God's children. This is an exciting position and reflects our willingness and desire to have a voice in the world.
Please know that we are not adding to the budget (the projected staff budget for 2018 is currently $925 below 2017).
As we engage this sacred work of discernment please pray for us and the people who will eventually assume these two important roles so that together we might better live into the Great Commission.

Canon for Mission Job Description
BASIC FUNCTION
The Canon for Mission is called to help continue the ministry of developing the Diocese of Pennsylvania into a "beloved community" that lives out our baptismal covenant. Theirs will be a call to serve Jesus Christ through word and action supporting the congregations of the Diocese by working in urban, suburban, and rural areas proclaiming the Good News. The Canon for Mission will engage churches and their communities in addressing systematic societal conditions that undermine human dignity such as discrimination, food insecurity, economic hardship, addiction, and access to education. The work of the Canon for Mission will interact with local, diocesan, denominational, and interdenominational groups to fulfill our baptismal mandate to "strive for justice and peace among all people, and respect the dignity of every human being."
The Canon for Transition Ministry is called to serve Jesus Christ through word and action supporting the congregations of the Diocese of Pennsylvania, and to assist and advise the Bishop on issues of clergy recruitment, clergy deployment, the ordination process, placement for the newly ordained, clergy continuing education, interim ministry, and with the Canon to the Ordinary, to assist clergy in crises. This position requires good judgement, a sense of integrity and compassion, a high degree of confidentiality, the ability to work independently, excellent people skills, and the willingness and ability to work with others in both leadership and supportive roles.

FUNCIONES BÁSICAS
El Canónigo o la Canóniga de Misiones, es su llamado el de ayudar con la continuación del desarrollo del ministerio en la Diócesis de Pennsylvania en una comunidad de amor que muestre y viva nuestro pacto bautismal. Su llamado será servir a Jesucristo a través de la palabra y la acción, sosteniendo las congregaciones de la Diócesis para trabajar en las áreas urbanas, suburbanas, y rurales proclamando las nuevas del Evangelio. El Canónigo o la Canóniga de Misiones se comprometerá con las iglesias y sus comunidades para abordar las condiciones del sistema social que socaban la dignidad humana, tales como la discriminación, falta de alimentos, difícil situación económica, adicciones, y acceso a educación. FUNCIONES BÁSICAS
El Canónigo o la Canóniga de Ministerios en Transición, su llamado será servir a Jesucristo a través de la palabra y la acción, sosteniendo las congregaciones de la Diócesis de Pennsylvania, asistiendo y aconsejando al Obispo en los asuntos de reclutamiento del clero, en señalar las obligaciones del clero, con el proceso de ordenaciones, con la ubicación de los recién ordenados, en el proceso de educación continua para el clero, con los ministerios interinos; y con el Canónigo del Ordinario, asistirá a los miembros del clero que enfrenten alguna crisis. Este puesto requiere buen juicio, un sentido de integridad y compasión, un alto grado de confidencialidad, poseer la destreza de trabajar independientemente, excelente habilidad de trabajar con el público, con disposición y habilidad de trabajar con otras personas tanto en posiciones de liderato o puestos de apoyo.
