St. Michael's Academy
:
I hope everyone has enjoyed a great summer and is ready to jump into the new school year.
Things have been very busy at the school over the summer. The faculty just finished a week of professional development and teachers have been busy preparing their classrooms and getting materials ready for the first day. We replaced the classroom windows on the Eddywood side of the building and we are coming down the homestretch in the process of updating our lobby!
Madeleine Golda provided an intensive day of professional development. Ms. Golda is the chief academic officer at EduBoston and provided a professional development program for teaching methodology training and cultural diversity training.
The week ended with a retreat day and prayer service provided by Sr. Constance.
Ms. Koffie is one of the new teachers who will be joining us in Grade 4.
Mrs. Rakouskas has been busy delivering supplies to the classrooms.
And Mrs. Nicoliello was putting the finishing touches on her classroom.
The lobby has been undergoing an SMA facelift...
And the classrooms on the Eddywood side had new windows installed.
THE FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL
Grades 1-8 will begin on Monday, August 28th and PreK and Kindergarten on Wednesday, August 30th. If you are in Grades 1-4, you will report to the church on Monday to find out your classroom assignments. The parents of Grades 5-8 were informed at the parent orientation of their child's homeroom. If you are unsure, there will be faculty available the first day to help you. PreK and Kindergarten parents, don't forget we will have a drop-in Open House in the classrooms on Tuesday, August 29th between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. This will allow your child to see their classroom and meet their teacher.
The Before and After School Programs will be available beginning on Monday, the first day of school. Doors will open at 6:30 a.m. and close at 5:30 p.m.
The bus routines have been formed by the Transportation Department of the Springfield Public Schools and have been posted on our SMA website as well as the Springfield Public School website. To view the most recent version, click

Back to School BBQ
Thank you to all who joined us at the annual "Back To School BBQ." It was so nice to see everyone and enjoy some fun before the first day. It was especially nice to welcome back some of our alumni students who joined us this year!
We also send out a special THANK YOU to the Holy Cross Knights of Columbus who slaved over a hot grill cooking all the hot dogs and hamburgers and did clean up for us. We appreciate you!

We look forward to welcoming everyone back. Don't forget to get a good night's sleep and be prepared to jump in
with two feet!
Enjoy your weekend!
