Come just to listen or to dance to the blue grass and old time musicians who play every  Tuesday and Saturday beginning at 7pm. Admission  is $5 on Tuesday and $6 on Saturday. Line Dancing classes are also offered on Monday nights beginning at 6pm. The Jubilee is located on North Main Street, across from the Courthouse.

Barn Quilt Trails 

Barns and other buildings around the county display squares illustrating quilt patterns and add interest to a driving tour of the countryside. Drop by Alleghany Chamber of Commerce and Visitors' Center for a brochure. We are in the rock building with the green awning (58 South Main Street, Sparta). Our foyer is always open and a brochure is always available.

Driving Loops
Brochures for three driving loops of the Alleghany country-side are available at the Alleghany Chamber of Commerce and Visitors' Center. Each loop is about a leisurely hour's drive and includes information on historic points along the way. The Chamber office is in the rock building with the green awning (58 South Main Street, Sparta). Our foyer is always open and a brochure is always available.
Be sure to visit when planning a trip this Spring or Summer. Open Thursday through Saturday, 10am to 5pm. There's never an admission charge. Stop by to experience local history and to see the new displays, 7 North Main Street, Sparta.

Veterans' Morning Coffee & Breakfast
 at the VFW
The VFW hosts an informal full breakfast including, biscuits, gravy, eggs, bacon, sausage, grits, and coffee every Wednesday from 8:30-11am. All veterans are invited to attend.  Click to learn more .
 
The VFW Military Museum is open to the public, 10am-2pm, every Wednesday and Saturday in the basement of the VFW Post 7034, 1193 US Highway 21 S, Sparta, NC. Admission is free.

Voices of Alleghany

This coming Thursday, July 20, 2017, "Voices of Alleghany" (VOA) will hold a Spoken-Word Open Mic Night in the lobby of the Miles Realty office from 7 pm to 8:30 pm. 565 S Main St., Sparta.
The VOA welcomes all writers from age 12 and up to come and share their poems and short stories with the public. If you aren't a writer you still are welcome to attend and listen! We had nine people reading their works last time, and we're hoping for more this time around. Please come and share and enjoy.

Alleghany Fiddlers Convention

The best of traditional mountain music in competition will be held on Friday, July 21st until Saturday, July 22 at the Alleghany County Fair Grounds 1375 US Highway 21 N Sparta NC 28675.
