It is always a special treat to see a live Seahorse!   If you are lucky, y ou mi ght discover one of these fanciful fish hiding among the strands of grass and  seaweed in the  Bay's shallo w waters.  You will find out the important  scientific work the VLM is doing to  help seahorses survive in the wild, and get a special  "behind-the-scenes" look  at the museum's amazing seahorse breeding station!

Beautiful Butterflies!

The Butterfly Society of Virginia will help  your family learn about some of our most beautiful butterfly species, their life cycles, and which kinds of flowers they like to visit for their meals!  Bring your curiosity and questions to this evening that will celebrate color on the wing - and take home a butterfly craft!

This Children's Theater production held in the
 museum's outdoor amphitheater answers the question "Is My Sandwich a Dinosaur?"  Children learn  all about dinosaurs and what fossils (and chicken sandwiches) can teach us about them. Six shows daily with lots of audience participation!  Weather permitting: 11:00am,
11:30am, 12:00pm, 1:00 pm, 1:30pm, and 2:00pm in  the  outdoor Wason Amphitheater.

Join us for Giant Lego brick sculptures, designed by Brooklyn artist and children's author Sean Kenney, t hat brings nature to life with a six-foot hummingbird hovering over a trumpet flower, a deer family made from 48,000 bricks, a giant tortoise, a seven-foot long dragonfly, and much more.  This spectacular combination of nature and art is an award-winning, record-breaking exhibition created  with over a half million LEGO bricks.

The exhibit will be located in the Conservation Garden where visitors can view the 13 amazing sculptures, as well  as, enter a "castle themed"  Big Block Build Zone . A   LEGO BRICK  Creation Station  will put guests' creativity to the test along with age level building competitions and activities.

If you thought you knew everything about sharks, think again! Experience the epic life of  Harriet Hammerhead - take a peek inside her diary in this traveling exhibit that highlights  shark biology and conservation.

hrough Sept 4.
