Welcoming New Opportunities
Dear  ,

Since our last newsletter, the media picked up on the budget cuts that our little organization has undergone. We know we aren't the only ones that have been affected by the economy in recent years, and want to assure our supporters that we will continue to rally support for the social services across Central Alberta.

These changes have encouraged us to take a fresh look at some of the initiatives we are supporting. As a result, we have been busy connecting with our donors much earlier this year, and taking advantage of opportunities to raise additional funds through initiatives such as the "Mosaics of Hope" and "Dine for United Way" which you can read more about below.

Also, we are opening up additional sponsorship and volunteer opportunities.

We have been around for fifty years, and we plan to be around for another fifty to continue our community impact work. Thank you for your ongoing support and trust in our organization.

We want to continue to feel your love, so if you have a minute, we encourage you to vote for United Way as your favourite charity organization in Best of Red Deer 2017.
Emerson Moved from
Poverty to Possibility
Emerson suffers with mental health challenges, including paranoia. Imagine feeling like bugs were crawling all over you all of the time. Emerson scratched mercilessly leaving scabs all over her body, most noticeably on her face. She used heroin to cope and ended up living in a tent for more than 2 years.

Encouraging Leadership Giving in
our Community
For five years, United Way has been fortunate to have a number of businesses and individuals step forward to create the Leadership Matching Challenge incentive fund. These campaign pledges are earmarked to encourage people to become Leadership donors ($1,200) or increase their current Leadership gift. Does it work?

Let's Talk 211
If you're travelling to an international destination for a vacation or business, you can generally find what you need with a few words in the local language. But, what if you suddenly moved to Canada as an immigrant or refugee and could speak only a little or no English or French? How would you find the help you need?

We recently attended the City of Red Deer's Let's Talk event, and learned just how powerful 211 can be for newcomers.

We have been selected to be one of three participating non-profits for Parkland Mall's "Mosaics of Hope" fundraiser for 2017. Each charity provides a photograph that is cut into mosaic pieces and brought to life by shoppers who purchase tiles for $5 and place them on a map of the photo. Parkland Mall will match dollar for dollar. The potential total revenue of $7,500.

Did you know April 23-29 is National Volunteer Week? Thanks to Volunteer Canada, we are reminded how fortunate we are to have our great United Way family to help us out in so many ways.

Thanks to everyone who has donated their time and good spirit
to support United Way Central Alberta.

We're in the process of signing up some great community-minded eating and drinking establishments who are eager to give back to the community.

Stay tuned for a listing of participating venues, or if you want to sign up... give us a call at 403-343-3900.
