Canada's climate-change plan threatens business competitiveness, Trudeau warned

Canada's climate-change plan and other government measures are heaping costs on businesses and pushing them to a breaking point, the Chamber of Commerce says in a warning to Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.
Chamber President Perrin Beatty, in a letter Tuesday, asked Trudeau to find ways to cut business costs to offset the impact of an emissions plan that includes a minimum carbon price beginning next year. Failure to do so could mean "seriously undermining Canada's competitiveness," he said.

Targeted infrastructure investments key to solving economic challenges
The Canadian Chamber of Commerce recently released a new report that finds focused infrastructure investments can help solve many of the major economic challenges that Canada faces.

Canada's economy posts 'blow out' growth; dollar jumps

Canada's economy continued its hot streak in May, riding broad-based growth led by a surge in oil output, beating already high market expectations and setting off another wave of buying in the high-flying Canadian dollar.
Statistics Canada reported that Canada's real gross domestic product jumped 0.6 per cent in May from April, on a seasonally adjusted basis - triple the solid 0.2-per-cent growth that economists had predicted. That matched the strongest single-month growth that the economy has posted in the past six years. Compared with 12 months ago, real GDP was up 4.6 per cent - the fastest year-over-year growth in nearly 17 years....continue reading

4. WORK WITH BUSINESS TO COMBAT CLIMATE CHANGE AND MAINTAIN CANADA'S COMPETITIVENESS
Climate change is an ecological issue, but confronting it is also a business challenge. In addition to other measures, governments are looking to the private sector to mobilize money and technology to reduce the emissions that are already damaging the Earth's climate. For both the global ecology and the global economy, it is imperative these policies succeed. A survey by the World Economic Forum listed the possible failure of climate change mitigation and adaptation as "the risk with the greatest potential impact in 2016."
