THE PELOTON CHALLENGE
Rolls through Waverly

Cycling from Toronto, ON to Austin, TX!  The Wellspring Cancer Support Network ride for cancer support rolled through Waverly - Monday, September 11.

With the threat of Hurricane Irma making landfall in Florida this week, the 20 cyclists and 23 support drivers embarking on this year's Peloton Challenge cycling adventure had to scramble to make last-minute plans to reroute their destination to Austin. But the ride still went on!

What is the The Peloton Challenge?

It's an epic life adventure, an adrenaline kick, it's friends for life and it's the thrilling challenge of the body, of the mind and of the spirit, all coming together to achieve a milestone. Completing The Peloton Challenge is an impressive accomplishment that only a few have the privilege of boasting, and it is an inspiring story of being able to help support those most in need.

What The Peloton Challenge is not, is another typical group charity ride. Instead, it's a unique cycling challenge in which teams of cyclists (pelotons) ride together for six hours at a time, travelling distances of up to 120 km for 8 days, to travel more than 3000 km to raise funds to support those living with cancer.

LOCAL MEDICARE
PRESENTATIONS SCHEDULED
Pike County  - October 30

Are you a Medicare beneficiary? Want to find out more information about
how the Medicare Annual Coordinated Election Period can work for you?
Want to stay informed and healthy and save money? If so, then mark your
calendar for Medicare informational presentations and counseling events
that will be available this Fall in your county.

These free events are made possible by the Ohio Department of
Insurance's Ohio Senior Health Insurance Information Program (OSHIIP),
which travels the state each fall to help Ohioans, family members and caregivers understand the different Medicare coverage options and available financial assistance. Medicare's Annual Coordinated Election Period starts October 15th and ends December 7th. During this time, Medicare beneficiaries can evaluate their current coverage and make the determination on whether they should switch to a plan that will better support their needs. Those on Medicare are strongly encouraged to attend a session, which will provide helpful information and assistance.

The Area Agency on Aging District 7 (AAA7) can also help you throughout the year to answer any questions you might have concerning your Medicare coverage, specifically with help surrounding the Medicare Part D Prescription Drug Coverage Low Income Subsidy "Extra Help" Program and the Medicare Savings Program (assistance with Part B premium). If you would like to learn more about these programs and whether or not you are eligible to receive discounts on your prescription drugs, please call our office at 1-800-582-7277 and ask for extension 250.

Local Medicare presentations are scheduled for:

HELP FEED THE HUNGRY

Can you volunteer a minimum of three hours a month at the Pike County Outreach Council food pantry?

The Outreach Council is looking for dedicated people to do intake or distribute food at the pantry located at 107 W. Second St. in downtown Waverly. The pantry is open Monday -Friday 9-3; Thursday evening 6-8; and Saturday 10-1. Call Autumn at 740-941-4348 if you can assist in this important ministry.

We operate the only food pantry in Pike County. Households may come to the pantry every 7 days. We offer a variety of food for Pike Countians at our choice pantry. We need you to either greet the customers and do the intake paperwork or assist our customers as they choose products from 15 or more categories.

We provided 308,259 meals in 2016.

WE NEED YOUR HELP!

Help us provide food for seniors who are surviving on Social Security and very little food stamps.

Help us feed your disabled friends and neighbors.

Help us feed families with young children and hungry teenagers.
