Our survival?
To really belong to one another and to depend on one another - to really share a common destiny - is difficult for a community that wants to be diverse. It is also the community's only hope of survival.

Tremendous Success!
Today, Farrah and her family moved into their own house!

When Farrah joined our network, she wanted to pursue the dream of homeownership. She participated in the Athens Land Trust
lease-purchase program which requires completing homebuyer education, financial counseling and planning classes.  The classes were held on Saturdays and Farrah attended every class (on her only day off).  While in our program, Farrah saved money and was able to pay her rent deposit on the house.

This is a wonderful example of nonprofits in Athens working together to solve the issue of homelessness and poverty that our community faces.

Most importantly, the kids are really excited to have their own backyard!!

New Beds!
Davin trying out the new bed!
Thanks to a North Georgia United Methodist Housing and Homeless Council grant, IHNA is getting new beds for our guests and for our overnight hosts. We ordered them today and we hope to have them in service during the month of October. The mattress will be an inch thicker. The decking will be made out of a more comfortable material and over all the beds will be lighter.

We hope that the new beds will help us extend greater hospitality to our families and greater appreciation to our volunteers.

Our Executive Director, Davin Welter, was the overnight host last night at Milledge Avenue Baptist Church and he said he can't wait to try out the new beds to see if they will improve his sleep!
We humbly ask for your support.
I think we have all been reminded over the last month about how fragile housing can be and that we all could be homeless because of no fault of our own in a short period of time. Because of Irma, I was without power for 3 days. It was an inconvenience, but a powerful (pun intended) reminder that the work of IHNA is critical. The temporary housing, the love, the compassion, the helping hand, the delicious meals, the careful driving that we give to homeless children and their families takes them out of crisis (like the folks affected by Irma and Harvey) and provides them with a peace of mind that everything is going to be alright and that folks care about them.

June and July are typically our most difficult financial months and because of that I ask that you consider making a gift to help local homeless families.  As you can see from the story above about Farrah and her family, we are having tremendous success and we ask for your support of success like this. Simply go to our website and click the Donate Now! button in the upper left hand corner or mail a check to: IHNA, 393-1 W. Hancock Ave., Athens, GA 30601.

Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!
