PBIS--Being Respectful in the Classroom
Being Respectful in the Classroom. Being respectful in the classroom means following the expectations for ALL staff at school. This includes classroom teachers, instructional assistants, specials teachers, all other staff, and parents who come to help in classrooms.  We are a community at PCCS, and we value showing respect to one another. Students are expected to show respectful behavior towards adults, and teachers are expected to show respectful behavior towards students. By showing respect to each other, we make our school environment a happier, more positive place to learn and do our best every day.
Environmental Learning
This year, we're harnessing the greatest and most powerful renewable energy source in the world -- our students!  We're very excited by the enthusiasm of our students for environmental learning and stewardship.  Many PCCS students (and staff!) want to make a difference beyond even what they do in class, and we're thrilled to have three extra-curricular groups helping to keep the environment at the center of everything we do this year.

The Green Challenge Leadership Group is a new committee of passionate 5th and 6th graders who will be running the school's Green Challenge program this year.  Assemblies, classroom activities and challenges will come from this group of students!

The Comstock Eco-Warriors is another new group; these enthusiastic 3rd and 4th grade students will help lead the Comstock building in new environmental projects and in making sure that students are practicing environmental behaviors with fidelity.

Meanwhile, the Green Team has reconvened -- this group of 8 faculty and 15 students in grades 3-8 have already started planning programs and initiatives for the 2017-18 school year.  You can join us for our first event on  September 30.  We will be cleaning up our adopted stretch of highway that morning... click  HERE for more details!  We hope you can join us for some earth-friendly fun.

Students from the Carson Building went on visits to the Learning Farm this week to engage in integrated lessons on tomatoes.  Their afternoon included ELA, science, math, and social studies connections and celebrated the relationship we have with tomatoes in our culture as well as in their native home.

Wednesday's first Farm to Table was a resounding success thanks to the efforts of PCCS students who harvested and contributed heirloom tomatoes as well as white and yellow onions which went into an amazing lunch prepared by Chef Rick Starr of Ad-Lib Geocafe in Lindenhurst.

Finally, looking ahead, 5th and 6th Grade will be busy prepping and cooking for their annual Tomato Jubilee next week and 8th Grade will be kicking off their Farmstand.  They will be selling produce from PCCS Sustainable Schoolyard gardens directly to families during carpool.  Watch for herbs, vegetables, and a few surprises to be offered up during carpool next week!
