PRAY FOR TEXAS and FLORIDA
Thank you for your generous offering to our sisters and brothers in Texas and Florida. Last week St Joseph Church sent over $9000 to Catholic Charities to assist with the immediate needs of those who are trying to rebuild their lives.
"Then the righteous will answer Him, 'Lord, when did we see You hungry, and feed You, or thirsty, and give You something to drink? 38'And when did we see You a stranger, and invite You in, or naked, and clothe You? 39'When did we see You sick, or in prison, and come to You?' 40"The King will answer and say to them, 'Truly I say to you, to the extent that you did it to one of these brothers of Mine, even the least of them, you did it to Me.' Matthew 25:37-40

TWENTY SECOND SUNDAY ORDINARY TIME A

Sirach wrote a book of wise advice to his students. One of the most difficult pieces of advice he could give was that of forgiveness. Forgiveness leads to healing.
Psalm 103 is a song of praise in the guise of the word "blessing." How can we praise God? "Bless the Lord, O my soul."
In his
Letter to the Romans, St. Paul reminded his audience they do not live just for themselves. No, they live for others, especially the Lord.
What does it mean to truly forgive? This is the question Peter asked Jesus. Seven times, Lord? Is that enough? No, Jesus answered. Seven times seventy. The Lord knew forgiveness is never perfect; it is a lifelong struggle.

Our Lady of Sorrows
Our Lady had many great joys as the Mother of Jesus, but she had much to suffer, too. Her great love for her divine Son caused Mary to suffer when she saw Jesus treated cruelly by his enemies. Mary is the Queen of Martyrs because she went through spiritual torments greater than the bodily agonies of the martyrs. Her heart was like an altar when on Calvary she offered up her beloved Jesus to save us. What a terrible suffering it was for so loving a mother to see her Son die on the cross!
We especially remember
seven occasions of great suffering in Mary's life. The
first was when she took Baby Jesus to the Temple. There the prophet Simeon told her that a sword of suffering would pierce her heart. This would be when Jesus was put to death. Her
second sorrow was when she and St. Joseph had to flee to Egypt with Jesus because Herod's soldiers were trying to kill him. The
third suffering came when Mary searched three days in Jerusalem for Jesus. She finally found him in the Temple. Our Lady's
fourth sorrow was when Jesus was whipped and crowned with thorns. Her
fifth great pain was caused by seeing him lifted on the cross, where he died after three hours of agony. Mary's
sixth sorrow was the moment when Our Lord's lifeless body was placed in her arms. And her
seventh suffering came when he was buried in the tomb.
Mary did not pity herself or complain because she had to suffer so much during her life. Instead, she offered her sorrows to God for our sakes. She is our Mother. Because she loves us dearly, she was happy to suffer along with Jesus her Son, so that we might some day share her joy with Jesus in heaven.
❦
In honor of Our Lady of Sorrows, today we can offer up some little sacrifice without complaining. We can also think about each of the seven sorrows of Mary and thank her for her great love for us.

Fr Silva and I would like to thank those who contributed to the final addition to the Rectory chapel created in memory of Msgr. Scull - which will be known as "Golgatha Chapel"
This is the same chapel where Msgr prayed for his time here at St Joseph and where the inspiration for all our ministries is nurtured still today.
The final update to complete the chapel renovation was to purchase a new tabernacle reflective of majesty and dignity of it's divine occupant.
A unique feature of this particular tabernacle is the "ostensorium" or the monstrance actually resides within the door of the tabernacle. The Blessed Sacrament is exposed by opening the door within the door of the ostesorium which is appropriate for our intimate worship space.
We are still approximately $600 short of the cost of the tabernacle. The names of those who have contributed to this project will be placed under the tabernacle on the altar to be remembered for their intentions during Mass and our private prayer.
If you are interested in participating in this memorial, please see Fr Silva.
In memory of Msgr Scull we would like to thank you all again for your love and support.
