NEW DOCUMENTARY FILM SERIES BEGINS IN DEDHAM ON SEPTEMBER 19TH

RISE Films was started by a group of women in Dedham to
help build community through films and conversations. Each screening will include a reception beforehand, and after the film, a panel of experts will present and discuss issues related to the documentary.

Motherbrook Arts and Community Center has graciously agreed to partner with RISE Films, and will host the screenings.  The first film in the series, I Am Jane Doe, was produced by Linda Cabot, a lifelong resident of our area who is well-known to many of our parishioners.  It tells the hard truths about a terrible scourge in our country and in our own towns:
child sex-trafficking.

Please join Olivia Hurlock and others to be part of this exciting new venture, to learn, connect and effect change in our communities!  Here is a link to purchase tickets ($10; $5 for students) and learn more about the film:

CAMINO DE SANTIAGO PILGRIMAGE

What is the Compostela Certificate & the Pilgrim's Passport?

Over 200,000 pilgrims arrive in Santiago each year and receive their Compostela certificate. You have to travel for religious/spiritual reasons in order to receive the Compostela. The pilgrim passport ( credencial ) needs to be stamped at least once a day; or twice a day if you are starting the pilgrimage in Spain. The stamped pilgrim passport is required to stay in first-come-first-served albergues (public hostels). Public albergues cannot be booked in advance. The pilgrims of St. Paul's will be staying in local hostels, so we don't need to worry about where we will be staying each night
.

Mark your calenda rs for our planning meetings and call the Parish Office at   781-326-4553
to make certain you are on "the list".

Except for September 20th, all meetings are on Sundays (following Worship)

THE WAY
2 hrs. 3 minutes; PG-13

Tom is an American doctor who goes to France following the death of his adult son, killed in the Pyrenees during a storm while walking The Camino de Santiago, also known as The Way of St. James. Tom's purpose is initially to retrieve his son's body. However, in a combination of grief and homage to his son, Tom decides to journey on this path of pilgrims. While walking The Camino, Tom meets others from around the world, all broken and looking for greater meaning in their lives, and discovers the difference between the life we live and the life we choose.

ST. PAUL'S BOOK GROUP
WEDNESDAY, October 4th at 7:00 P.M.
IN THE RECTORY
                                   All are Welcome!

Next month we will discuss Till We Have Faces by C. S. Lewis.

In this timeless tale of two mortal princesses- one beautiful and one unattractive- C.S. Lewis reworks the classical myth of Cupid and Psyche into an enduring piece of contemporary fiction. This is the story of Orual, Psyche's embittered and ugly older sister, who posessively and harmfully loves Psyche. Much to Orual's frustration, Psyche is loved by Cupid, the god of love himself, setting the troubled Orual on a path of moral development.

Set against the backdrop of Glome, a barbaric, pre-Christian world, the struggles between sacred and profane love are illuminated as Orual learns that we cannot understand the intent of the gods "till we have faces" and sincerity in our souls and selves.

MOVIE REFLECTION GROUP

Sunday, October 8, 2017

Once a month (late Sunday afternoon) we will venture to the Dedham Community Theater at 580 High Street to see a movie.  No need to RSVP, simply arrive for the movie and look for Reverend McCarley. Following the movie we will adjourn to a local eating establishment to reflect on the themes, acting, directing of the movie. Join us for lively discussion and entertainment that supports our local community!

CONFIRMATION CLASSES

Confirmation in the Episcopal Church is the rite for baptized persons who are ready and prepared to make a public affirmation of their faith. Confirmation is not required for church membership, but it is a significant, public way to affirm your connection to the church. At confirmation the bishop prays that the Lord will "empower you for his service and sustain you all the days of your life."
Confirmation for youth at St. Paul's begins at age 12 with a three-year program, meeting two Sundays each month throughout the program year. This year we will learn about the history of the church, hold our own "Council of the Church" where we will craft a statement of faith, learn about the history of the Episcopal Church in America and focus on how decisions are made on both a parish, provincial and world-wide level throughout our Communion. We will also hold "field trips", one to the Society of St. John in Cambridge (an Episcopal Monastery) and the other to a Greek Orthodox Church (these field trips are open to everyone).
If you are interested in joining the Confirmation Class, please call the Parish Office at 781-326-4553 or e-mail Melissa Quinn at [email protected] .

We pray for those serving in our Armed Forces, especially Luke Heier, nephew of Barbara Millen, who is serving in the Special Forces in the Philippines.

We pray for those who have died.

We pray for peace in our world, and for those countries suffering the devastation of war. We pray for all those suffering the devastating effects of forest fires in the western U.S. and hurricanes in the south.

We remember, O Lord, all those who have served in our Armed Forces and commend them to you for their bravery, their patriotism, and their honor. We ask that those who serve our country today may be kept in your everlasting love and that comfort and encouragement might be given to their families. We pray for peace and ask that your holy will might prevail among all people, and your name be exalted forever.

We pray for our Bishops Alan Gates and Gayle Harris.

Your prayers and support are greatly appreciated.

Regards,

The Rev. Melanie McCarley
