2018 Conference Plans
The PEARL 2018 Conference is quickly approaching and the planning committee is very excited as we continue planning for the 2018 PEARL Conference which will be held in Greenville, SC, April 13-15, 2018. Mark your calendars and plan to attend this exciting conference. We have dynamic new format packed with 2 full days of training and seminars. We have both technical and business speakers with panel discussions scheduled. The technical training will include both class room sessions and hands-on practical training. The hands-on training will be hosted at the Maddox Transformer Facility close to the hotel and meeting facility. There will also be ample time for networking with others (including suppliers) at the conference as well as the vendor trade show.

The 2017 Electrical Wholesaling Top 200
Electrical Wholesaling's annual listing of the 200 largest distributors of electrical supplies is the most in-depth ranking of the largest players in the electrical market available anywhere. Along with the ranking of the Top 200 electrical distributors by 2016 sales revenues, Electrical Wholesaling's editors provide in-depth analysis of which companies are growing fastest, are making the most acquisitions and investment in their companies, and have the highest sales-per-employee. The Outdated Mindset Keeping Women from STEM
It has been a recurring topic why women are not as involved in STEM (abbreviation for Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) as men. Although women represent 60% of college graduates, taking the number of undergraduate degrees earned in 2014-15, their representation in STEM is only 35%. Unfortunately, the number of undergraduate degrees handed out has increased in total in the last decade but the gender gap did not decrease, given it was 35% in 2008-2009 as well. This is not just a local phenomenon, in Europe as well, only four countries were able to state that at least 15% of all STEM graduates are female. Read more.

Safety-Related Maintenance Practices
Chapter 2 of NFPA 70E, Standard for Electrical Safety in the Workplace, provides the requirements for practical safety-related maintenance of electrical equipment and installations that fall under the Scope [90.2] of this standard [200.1]. The thrust of Chapter 2 is to identify what needs maintaining for the purposes of employee safety. Read more.

Current, Times Three
The insulation resistance test is one of the methods used to determine insulation integrity. Especially when combined with other types of tests, it can help you determine whether an installed cable should be replaced. When used in conjunction with baseline test data, insulation resistance testing can identify which cables are now deteriorating at an accelerated rate. It has a similar use for motor winding insulation. Read more.

What Does a Kilowatt hour Mean?
When using electricity in your home, you may never think about how many kilowatt hours (kWh) you are using to charge your (insert energy hogging device here). But the reality is, every device you plug into an outlet or hard wire into your home uses electricity and those kilowatt hours eventually add up to what you pay monthly to the electric company. Being an energy consultant I am often asked, what is a kilowatt hour?  Read more.

PEARL Expands its Technician Certification Program for the Reconditioning Industry
PEARL has launched a new phase of its Technician Certification Program. This program allows individuals to become recognized as a Certified Electrical Equipment Reconditioning Technician. Level II of the program is now available. Read more.

This September, the PEARL Board of Directors will be meeting in-person in Indianapolis, IN, and any interested members are invited to participate. Taking place September 16-17 at The Alexander hotel, any interested members should contact PEARL headquarters to setup your reservation and for more information.
