Baptist Convention of New England Newsletter  August 1, 2017

I believe New England college campuses are the most strategic mission field in the world. It sounds hyperbolic, but it's not. It's a fact. There are 20.5 million college students in the United States. Nine hundred seventy thousand of them attend schools in New England.

These schools are some of the best in world: Harvard ... Yale ... Brown ... Dartmouth ... MIT ... Boston College ... Middlebury College ... and the list goes on. New England is full of world-class colleges and universities that leaders around the world entrust their young people to. If we can reach those leaders while they are studying in New England, we can change the world ( read more ).

Why We Do What We Do, Where We Do It
by Andy Haynes, BCNE Director of New England Students

New England is America's educational capital.  More than 230 accredited colleges and universities educate students in the six New England states. With nearly one million college students from multiple nations, the campuses of New England are a strategic location to share the Gospel with under-evangelized young people who are examining their core values and actively building a foundation for their future. There are three key motives that define our efforts as collegiate missionaries and church planters in collegiate ministry.  These motives come from 2 Thessalonians 3:1 and 2 Corinthians 10:15-16.
Becoming Active in My Faith: A Student Testimony
by Sabrina Adcock, University of Maine at Presque Isle

I grew up in a Christian home, although we moved churches rather frequently, so I never had a place to grow roots and dig into the Word of Christ. I started to come into my faith at roughly 16 years old, when I began recovering from a deep depression that left me suicidal. One day while sitting and watching the sunset, God spoke to me. He told me that I was alive for a reason and that he loved me so much. I remember crying at the overpowering love of Christ after that. Still, I did not pursue God at that time, instead settling back into the motions of life.
Ministry Highlights from UMASS Lowell
by Chris James, Collegiate Missionary at UMASS Lowell and pastor of Mill City Church

Nestled in the midst of a diverse community of young professionals, blue collar workers, large minority populations and deep poverty is the University of Massachusetts, Lowell - about 30 miles northwest of downtown Boston.  Enrolling more than 10,000 undergrads, UMASS Lowell is becoming one of the most influential state schools in all of New England.  The campus is also home to Christian Student Fellowship, the largest Baptist Campus Ministry in New England (and one of the largest student organizations on campus).

Antioch Baptist Church Celebrates 30th Summer Mission Trip

From May 27 to June 6 this summer, 180 summer missionaries from all over the world gathered in Korea to celebrate the 30 th  Anniversary Summer Mission Trip (SMT) of Antioch Baptist Church (formerly Berkland Baptist Church), which originally began with 29 college students back in 1987, led by Rebekah Kim, a college minister who is currently serving as a Southern Baptist Chaplain of Harvard University, and wife of Pastor Paul Kim, Pastor Emeritus of Antioch.
Spirit of Unity, Servanthood Evident During Mission Trip
by Russ Rathier, pastor - Washington Baptist Church, Washington, VT

The Spirit of God is truly at work in New England in general, and we just experienced this work specifically in Rumney, NH. During the third week of June, God brought together 82 of His children from 8 states (North Carolina, Maryland, Virginia, New Jersey, Nebraska, New York, Vermont and New Hampshire) for the seventh annual White Mountain Servants' Camp, a week of rebuilding and repairing at the Rumney Bible Conference Center. This week always reminds me of Acts 2:42-47 as we gather daily to live in a community where all share everything and God gets the glory.
Editor's Note: Many people contributed to reconstruction at the Happy T Ranch in Rumney, NH, including Carpenter's Hands Ministry. To learn more about this work from another perspective, read Mobilizing for a Resurrection.
July News Highlights

More than 500 New England youth and leaders representing 41 congregations in five states attended CrossWalk 17 from July 10-15 at Gordon College in Wenham, Mass. Students enjoyed fellowship, worship, age-based Bible study, recreation and other activities based on personal interests. Twenty-eight teenagers made a salvation decision, and 13 expressed a call to ministry or missions. CrossWalk is staffed by New England natives and locally-based ministry leaders. It began in 2000 and is a highlight of the year for many New England youth groups.
