Recovery Updates - Afternoon Report

Lyft Rides:
The City of Coral Gables is partnering with the rideshare company Lyft to provide free, storm-related "relief rides" to Coral Gables residents, free of charge. All you have to do is call our Coral Gables Hotline number at 305-460-5401 and our call-takers will arrange it for you. This service is available for a limited period of time.

Garbage:
Garbage collection began today for residents with Monday/Thursday service.  Residents with Tuesday/Friday service will be collected tomorrow Friday.  Please make sure garbage bins and bagged garbage is visible from the street and very accessible for the collection crew.  Collection routes and times will take longer now with higher volumes of garbage, traffic conditions, and longer than usual lines at disposal sites.

Public Safety:
Call volume to the City's Communications Center is beginning to taper down. Our Fire Department responded to 40 Incidents, which resulted in 49 unit responses.

Traffic update:
  • One reported crash since 0700 hours at 5434 SW 8 Street;
  • Douglas & SW 8 Street intersection has become inoperable again. City of Miami Police is monitoring the intersection;
  • Traffic light at Granada & Alhambra is now functioning.

Beware of Unlicensed Contractors:
Unfortunately, there are unscrupulous individuals marketing themselves as licensed contractors during this time of emergency. Unlicensed activity is a serious threat to the health, safety, and welfare of Residents and Visitors. Unlicensed activity occurs when a person performs or offers to perform a job or service that requires licensure by the Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation (DBPR) or Miami-Dade County Code Chapter 10 Section 10-4 to include roofing, mechanical, electrical, and plumbing.  A link to a brochure detailing the importance of hiring a licensed contractor can be found here:  http://www.miamidade.gov/licenses/library/brochures/contracting-without-license.pdf

To verify contractor licensure, check DBPR  www.myfloridalicense.com  or Miami-Dade County http://egvsys.miamidade.gov:1608/WWWSERV/ggvt/bnzawbcc.dia

FEMA Assistance:
Residents impacted by Hurricane Irma can contact FEMA Assistance at www.DisasterAssistance.gov , the the FEMA app or 1-800-621-3362.

Curfew:
Currently, there is no curfew imposed in the City of Coral Gables or in Miami -Dade County.

Thank you for your Patience!
