Goal #10 - Leadership for Ministry (in Process of Being Accomplished)
10.
Adopt an efficient and accountable
leadership structure for the Vestry and the Parish, possibly dividing the work into
five parish Ministries,
Worship and Music, Education and Spiritual Development, Outreach and Evangelism, Stewardship and Finance and Pastoral Care and establish Ministry Descriptions for all leadership and ministry positions;
Update on Goal #10:
The Vestry/Renewal Team has met for the past several weeks to discern the Ministries of St. Brendan's and name Vestry Advocates to be responsible for each ministry area:
______Ministry Vestry Advocate
Worship & Music (includes Altar Guild & Flowers) Barbara Kourajian
Education & Spiritual Development Peter Tarlton
Outreach & Evangelism Richard Paget
Pastoral Care Miriam Antich
Stewardship & Finance Pete Dane
Property Management Jo Jacob
Ministry Descriptions:
- The Vestry/Renewal Team has also - with the consultation and guidance of Fr. Dufresne - drafted and approved a template to be used in developing Ministry Descriptions for each ministry area.
- The Ministry Description delineates the areas of authority, responsibility and lines of accountability for the parish ministry.
- A copy of this Ministry Description template is attached:
- Once finalized, each Ministry Description will be reviewed by the Vestry for adoption as a Continuing Resolution, establishing a policy and framework for the ongoing work of St. Brendan's.

Summary of September 6, 2017 Vestry/Renewal Team Minutes:
The Vestry approved a request from the Buildings & Grounds Committee for $4,725 to pave the highway end of the driveway, move the boulders needed to complete the side flower bed, remove the granite pieces on the old stairs at the front of the church, and improve the drainage on the driveway side of the old church building to keep water from flowing down to the basement windows.
The Renewal Team/Vestry continued its discussion and consideration
of mission and values statement(s), model Ministry descriptions and formation of the various Ministry areas.

August, 2017 Financial Update Summary:
Note from Our Treasurer:
Below is a summary Income and Expense Statement through August 2017. It shows that not only do revenues appear to exceed budgetary projections but that so far expenses are less than projected. So while the Vestry took a plunge and adopted a deficit budget in order to increase priestly presence in the congregation's life, it appears at the moment that in fact that there is a good chance the actual revenue may in fact meet expenses. Except for one item...

About The Concert Across America
The Concert Across America will take place Sunday, Sept. 24th, the day before the date designated by Congress in 2007 as a day of remembrance for murder victims. This nationwide event will bring together a network of organizations, activists and artists with the dual goals of keeping guns out of dangerous hands and making the issue of illegal guns top of mind for members of Congress, the President and potential challengers, and the American people as they remained energized ahead of the 2018 and 2020 elections. In addition to grassroots concerts, a national sing a-long, spearheaded by Stop Handgun Violence in Boston, will take place in more than a hundred locations.

Scripture Notes for The Fifteenth Sunday After Pentecost
We continue to read from the section of Matthew's Gospel,
which deals with God's forgiveness and our role in extending His forgiveness to all people. Peter
asks Jesus how many times he is to forgive someone who wrongs him. In a parable, Jesus explains that God's forgiveness of us lays on us the obligations to forgive our brothers and sisters
unconditionally.
The first reading brings us to the most important event in the story of God and
the people of
Israel. God saved them from the Egyptian army at the sea. The people were led to safety and
freedom. Jesus spoke of his own death and resurrection as his Exodus. We join him in that
Exodus as God leads us to
salvation through the waters of baptism.
Today we conclude reading through the Epistle to the Romans. Paul calls on Christians to refrain
from judging one another. The differences between the
ways various ones of us follow Christ are
to be accepted. Our responsibility is
to love God and each other.
We are a community marked by faith and obedience to God's Word. Our life reflects our relationship with God and our relationships with each other. We are
to be a community marked
by acceptance of all and by forgiveness. Not a gathering of perfected saints - we are, rather, a
gathering of sinners who have known God's love and forgiveness and who in turn extend that
love and forgiveness to all people.

Icon of St. Brendan by Siri Beckman
Lord, I will trust you.
Help me to journey beyond the familiar and into the unknown.
Give me the faith to leave old ways and break new ground with you.
Christ of the mysteries, I trust you to be stronger than each storm
within me.
I will trust in the darkness and know that my times are in your hand.
Tune my spirit to the music of heaven, and somehow, make my obedience count for you.
