What is the fundraising goal this year?

The York Catholic Fund will strive to raise $300,000 to address the initiatives above by encouraging all graduates whether recent or seasoned, parents, and friends to get involved. Each and every gift, whatever the amount, is valued and matters tremendously.

 

When should donations be made?

We gratefully accept annual gifts from July 1 through June 30 of each year to the York Catholic Fund. Donors who give $1,000 (or more) annually are members of YC's Mystical Rose Society and receive special acknowledgement at Mass and invitation to events throughout the year.

We Believe as a member of our YC family, your help will enable us to continue to offer a rich multidimensional experience for this year's students.  Please give to the York Catholic Fund so they may continue to grow in faith, mind, and heart, while receiving an exceptional YC education. Thank you!

We hope to see you at Back to School Night Tuesday, September 19, at 6 PM.  The evening begins with a School Board Leadership and Principal Presentation.  I mmediately following the presentation, p arents will meet the teachers and learn about class expectations. We look forward to seeing all of our parents in attendance.

Chromebooks will be distributed to 9th grade students during English classes next week.  Students and parents are reminded to return the Chromebook Acceptable Use Policy Agreement by tomorrow, September 15. Chromebooks will only be given to freshmen who have a signed agreement form on file.

Any request for a course change must be accompanied by a written parental request, teacher approval (as originally needed), and a $25.00 Late Roster Change Fee no later than tomorrow, September 15.  

Since the Master Roster is built according to the original registration of students, we cannot guarantee admission to particular replacement classes.  For incoming new students, if an error has been made in placement, teachers will initiate the needed change and no fee will be assessed.  No course changes will be made after tomorrow, September 15, however, track changes in courses will be considered into the first quarter at the discretion of the subject teacher for any student who has been inaccurately placed in a course.

Theme Days*

Rules for Dress Down as listed in the handbook apply for this week. Students are encouraged to dress according to the following themes on the specified days:

Monday - tie-dye vs. flannel

Tuesday - y our team vs. my team (any type of sports attire, favorite jersey, etc.)

Thursday - heroes vs. villains

Friday - green vs. gold

 

Powderpuff Volleyball Game*

Females from grades 11 & 12 will play a volleyball game against the female teachers on Thursday, September 21, at 2:30 PM in the gymnasium.  Senior boys will act as coaches and cheerleaders.

 

Bonfire

The Homecoming Bonfire is scheduled for Thursday, September 21, beginning at 7 PM on the lacrosse practice field (by the alley entrance of the stadium).  The fall sports teams will have relay contests to start the night so come cheer on your favorite team.  Go IRISH!

 

Pep Rally/Parade/Football Game/Alumni Band

The annual Homecoming Pep Rally is Friday, September 22, at 2:20 PM with the Parade beginning at 5:30 PM.  Join us for the football game versus Delone Catholic at 7 PM. Marching Band Alumni bring your instruments and sit with the Band during this year's Homecoming game!  If you are planning on playing with the band, email  [email protected]  and she will have music ready for you.  If you would like your music in advance, please state that in your email along with your mailing address. 

 

Homecoming Dance*

This year's Homecoming Dance for senior high students will be held on Saturday, September 23, from 7-10 PM in the cafeteria.  Tickets are $10 per student and will be on sale September 13-21 during lunch periods.  The Formal Dress Code Agreement is required by all students who wish to attend the dance.  Any student wishing to bring a guest to the dance must also submit a Guest Permission Form.  Parents and students, please know the guidelines will be strictly enforced.  The most recent trend of formal dress includes two-piece dresses that slightly expose the midriff.  Please know that an exposed midriff at any point throughout the evening will not be permitted and the student will be required to change into something acceptable.   Click  here  for required forms.  Any questions, please contact Ms. Heather Loser at [email protected] .

YC students are celebrating Red Ribbon Week 2017 the week of September 18.  This year's theme is "Keep your hands off drugs!" At York Catholic, students will have the opportunity to engage in activities that promote a drug-free and healthy lifestyle. Please partner with us and discuss this message at home, at the dinner table, at family outings, and with friends and the extended family. Take the pledge at  www.redribbon.org/pledge !

Senior members of York Catholic's National Honor Society will be helping to build a new playground in the park across the street from the school between Vander Avenue and Edgar Street tomorrow, September 15.  The students will assist "Bring On Play," a committee of individuals and organizations working together to increase play opportunities within the city of York. The students will dig, shovel, install, and assist in any way they are asked. This is the third consecutive year the National Honor Society has worked with BOP on creating a playground to help improve the community for others. Last year, they won a national award for their efforts!

CONSTANT CONTACT

York Catholic's emails to parents are sent through a service called Constant Contact.  If you currently receive emails from York Catholic (i.e., Irish Eye e-newsletter, etc.), there is a link at the bottom of each email you receive that allows you to edit your Constant Contact profile.  Click on:  Update Profile/Email Address.

FACTS

Families can access their account online to make the necessary changes to personal information. Families also have the option to call the FACTS Parent Help Center at 866-441-4637 which is available 24 hours a day.

Junior and Senior Parents:  The school is obligated to give names, addresses, and phone numbers of our juniors and seniors to the armed services upon their request, unless parents opt out of having the information shared.  If you do not want us to share your student's information with the military, please contact Mrs. Sheila Gick at [email protected] or 717-846-8871 x217  indicating your wishes by tomorrow, September 15.

Our Alpha student group will be hosting a New Senior High Student Social tomorrow, September 15, from 7:45-8:10 AM in the cafeteria. This helps with the transition to a new school and gives our new students some contacts for information and friendships.  All new senior high students are encouraged to attend.

Come out and cheer on our marching band as they compete against other bands in the area.

Our Future boys soccer players in our partner schools joined the YC team at Futures Night this week.  The girls get their chance next week!

Partner school students in grades 1-6 are invited to Futures Night at York Catholic's Girls Soccer game  Monday, September 18 ,  at 4 PM.

 

Students will get a chance to visit the locker room, participate in team prayer, be a part of the tunnel the players run through as they take the field, shag balls during warm-up, and have an opportunity to kick a penalty kick on the field during halftime. We'll also assemble together with the team after the game for a picture.  You do not need to be a member of a team to participate.  Come out and be part of the YC team as you cheer for your future school! 

York Catholic is hosting an Elementary Marching Band Camp on Saturday, September 30, from 8 AM-2 PM for any 4th, 5th, or 6th grade student who has played a band instrument for at least a year or who would be interested in color guard.  Students will have the opportunity to play level-appropriate Marching Band music, as well as learn basic drill techniques, and basic color guard techniques with a little fun thrown in. A mini-show for parents will take place at 1:45 PM. Lunch, snack, flipbook, lyre, and music will be provided. Cost is $25 per child, $40 for 2 children, $55 for 3 children.  Please bring a refillable water bottle, comfortable sneakers, bug spray, sunscreen, hat, and comfortable clothing.  Please register by September 22 by clicking here or contacting Cecelia Mezza at  [email protected]   or 717-846-8871 x224. 

Any 6th grade band student who attends a parochial school is welcome to play with the York Catholic Marching Band in the stands at the October 13 football game.  You do not need to attend the mini camp in order to play with us.  Please email Ms. Mezza if you are interested. Report time is at 5:45 PM in the YC Band Room. Students can leave at halftime or stay for the full game.

YC's Varsity Cheerleaders will be hosting a Cheer Clinic for students in grades K-6 on

Saturday, September 30, from 9 AM-12 PM in the gymnasium with a showcase of what was learned performed from 11:45 AM-noon.  Participants will learn cheers, chants, and a dance.  

Cost for one child is $25, two children are $35, and three children are $45.  Registration and payment are due by September 28 .  Click here for a registration form.

A pilgrimage to the Holy Land  is being organized by Fr. John McCloskey, pastor of St. Joseph in Dallastown, from June 14 to 25, 2018. See the key places where Jesus lived, ministered, died and rose: Bethlehem, Nazareth, Jericho, Jerusalem, Mt. Tabor, Capernaum and other sites on the Sea of Galilee.  The trip also includes a visit to the Dead Sea and the desert fortress of Masada, as well as a free day in Jerusalem. The cost, including bus transportation from Dallastown, airfare, and most meals is $3695 per person. The price without airfare is $2695. Father Fortunato Grottolo shared his personal stories of his time with Padre Pio with our students yesterday. He also showed students a relic of Padre Pio's garment that showed blood that flowed from his stigmata.  We were blessed to be one of the few schools in the Diocese to spend time with a friend of a Saint.
