Dear Saint Rose Families,

This week has been a week of strategic thinking and cooperative endeavors.  The Saint Rose Catholic School strategic planning and accreditation team met to begin our process of updating our plans.  This typically happens every five years.  The team reviewed our mission statement as well as the strengths and weaknesses of our school.  They also began to review the questions that will be part of the parent, student and faculty surveys that will begin in October.  This team is composed of SAC, faculty, parish and school administration and utilizes Tom Irmen of Irmen Consulting to facilitate the process.  Please look for the survey to come out in October. It will be important for you to participate so that we develop a great plan for continued success.
Wednesday the teachers met to continue our discussion of the vertical alignment of language arts.  This process came from our previous strategic plan and started last year with a full analysis of our language arts program.  A lot of great work was done, but the strength of the process lies in communication and time to implement ideas.  That is was started on Tuesday as teachers from preschool to 8th grade had a chance to talk through their classes and what they are doing. These discussions will continue this year on a monthly basis.
Walking through the halls of the school I noticed that there is a lot of evidence of our language arts program on the walls.  Basic letter recognition is found in the preschool where the students' names highlight the alphabet.  The third grade hallway has pre-writing graphic organizers up on display.  One can already see their paragraphs taking shape.  In fourth grade, students have paragraphs and a picture up about their 1st grade buddies. The paragraphs tell us all about their little Saint Rose buddies. These are all great exercises that help build the skills necessary for their 8th grade papers, research topics, interviews, Powerpoint presentations and more.
I hope that you have a wonderful weekend.  It is an action packed one for Saint Rose. On top of the typical CYO functions, we have Harrison Rally Day and the ordination of Dr. Dan Brahier, our middle school advanced math teacher.  Everyone is invited to march in the parade on Saturday. I have extra shirts for parents, grandparents, etc.  We will meet on Louisiana Avenue near 5th Street.  Look for the Saint Rose classroom float.  We have tons of candy for students and families to hand out during the parade. The parade concludes at Saint Rose, where we will have an ice cream social for anyone who wants to stop by.  Please stop by the tent and say hi to our parish and school representatives.  At the same time, Dr. Brahier will be ordained at Rosary Cathedral.  He will celebrate his first Mass at Saint Rose as a Deacon on Sunday at noon.  I hope that many of you have a chance to extend your congratulations to Dr. Brahier.

Have a wonderful weekend,

Sincerely,

Bryon Borgelt

CONTINUING ADULT FAITH FORMATION

"Too old too soon, too smart too late." That mantra comes to mind every time I
think about how I would have raised my daughters differently had I been more
knowledgeable about my Catholic faith. If I had life to live over again, the one
thing I would invest more time in would be learning and living a more authentic
practice of my Catholic faith as a mother and parent. It is the one investment that
offers eternal rewards." Mary Alice Newnam, St. Rose Parishioner

Wondering how to answer the questions your children will ask you about God and the Catholic faith? Join us every week for a topic of interest to you as we explore the Catholic faith through RCIA. The last two Wednesdays we heard Fr. Kidd present Jesus & the Meaning of Life and Creation & Fall/Adam & Eve.

Come to deepen your knowledge of the Catholic faith and/or to learn more about becoming Catholic. Hope to see you in the Sacred Heart Center on the St. Rose Parish campus Wednesday, September 20th, 7 -9 p.m. for... Incarnation: The Word Made Flesh...presented by Fr. George.

Please contact Sister Kathleen for more information: [email protected]
