Grace: It's Our Way of Life
As Episcopal Christians we
Worship at home daily and together weekly; Study the scriptures, our tradition, and what it means to be a disciple today; Serve our families, our parish, and our world in the name of  Christ. Everything we do is done with an ethic of Welcome because we are only here by Grace.
Where have you welcomed,  worshiped, studied or served?

150th Anniversary
Garden highlights seasons of death and rebirth

Grace Church's Garden of Remembrance and Reflection echoes its message of Enter in Peace with perennial plantings in soft, calming colors. Entering through the vine covered archway, St Fiacre statuary (holding a bouquet in one hand and a spade in the other) beckons us to sit awhile in quiet prayer while tuning out the street sounds in favor of birdsong.

This garden is tended, as are all gardens surrounding the church, by a dedicated group called St. Fiacre's Garden Guild. The guild was established in 2005, when parishioners interested in gardening organized to create an all-encompassing landscape plan that defined the whole of the church campus with coordinated shrubs, plantings and irrigation.

The building of the new sanctuary necessitated the building of this new memorial garden. Cremains interred in the former memorial garden (situated between the sanctuary and commons) were reverently moved to this new place of rest. That fall   click here to continue reading...

Parish Meeting Sunday, Sept. 17
We have scheduled a Parish Meeting for Sunday, September 17, after the 10 am service in the sanctuary. We will provide you with an update on our search process and next steps in moving forward.  All are welcome to attend.

Celebrating generations at Grace
Did you know that some families have been worshipping at Grace for five generations?!  The 150th Committee has compiled a list of families going back three, four and five generations, but we're not sure if the list is complete - should your name be there?  Look for the display in the Commons, and add your family's name to our parish history.

And introducing... The Cherubs!
Music and Worship Director Kathy Will is inviting children ages 3-7 to join her in a new musical group at Grace.  She will focus on musical experiences with these young ones, including singing, rhythmic instruments, musical games, and expressions of praise to God. Sessions will last 15-20 minutes each week and take place after the 10 am worship each Sunday.  Children will be encouraged to get a snack at coffee hour, where Kathy will meet them and lead them back into the sanctuary. Parents can have a few minutes of quiet for a second cup of coffee and some adult conversation.

Kathy has experience working with children of all ages, including several years teaching preschool and early elementary music classes in the Harbor Springs and Benzie County school districts. She is excited to share her love of worship and music with some of our youngest parishioners.

All children between the ages of 3 and 7 are invited to participate. The Cherubs will begin meeting on Sunday, September 24 and will meet regularly after that.

Collection for Hygiene Pantry
Sept. 17 - Oct. 1
Imagine trying to make a budget stretch every month, knowing that it may not be enough.  A minor car repair, a day or two off with a sick child and the budget is now in tatters and may be for a month or more.

So many of us are fortunate enough to be able to afford the essentials and not have to choose among the basic necessities that allow us to maintain our dignity.

The Love INC Community Hygiene Pantry is located at Jubilee House and provides essential supplies like toilet paper, laundry detergent, shampoo and more.  A visit to the pantry can be a blessing when it is fully stocked or a deflating disappointment when it is out of stock!  Just like our neighbors in need, the budget for supplies is tested on a regular basis.  To this end, we are looking for collections of specific items that allow our dollars to stretch further.

For the TWO WEEKS of Sept 17- Oct. 1, 2017 let's try to "fill the box" in the commons with donations of laundry detergent, shampoo, deodorant (neutral scents) and toothpaste and tooth brushes (single packages please).
If you would like to make a cash do nation, list Hygiene Pantry on the memo line of your check.

Let's try to fill the box to help fill the shelves for our neighbors in need!

Coffee Hour needs volunteer hosts
This vital welcoming ministry could use some help.  Could you host a coffee hour in the next few months?  Did you know there's a sign-up sheet in the parish hall (near the mailboxes)?  The only thing you have to do is make coffee, and keep it coming.  Training provided.  Anything beyond coffee is strictly up to you - whatever works for you.  Some people provide snacks, but it is not required.  You can also submit receipts to be reimbursed by the church, so don't let your household budget hold you back.  Gathering together in fellowship is how we build relationship with old and new, and it is a great way to get to know people you see in church but don't really know..  Sign up in the parish hall, or contact Eunice Taylor at  [email protected]  or  231-590-2294  if you'd like more information.

GT Baby Pantry seeks volunteers
The pantry is housed at Bethlehem Lutheran Church the 2nd and 4th Thursday of the month from 10 am-4 pm.  The pantry has been active in the area for approximately 15 years, helping mothers of young children with essential care items and enrichment and educational opportunities.  They are looking for volunteers of all kinds.  The possibilities and time commitment for volunteers is really varied and can be done at Bethlehem Lutheran or at home.  Please contact Sally Hanley 231-941-0655 or email [email protected]

Seeking EfM graduates
Have you graduated from or participated in Education for Ministry?  The 150th Committee would like to compile a list of Grace parishioners with EfM ties to include in an upcoming article.  It does not matter where you did your coursework - we'd like to include all EfM graduates and participants. Please contact the office to add your name to the list.

CROP Walk is coming Oct. 8
A chill in the air, migrating geese, and trees with the courage to change into beautiful arrays of color signal autumn.  Along with the wonders of fall, so too comes the CROP Walk.  Did you know the CROP Walk started in 1981 with Grace's rector, the Rev. Tom Stoll, as coordinator?  Grace has had a long history with the CROP Walk and we want to continue our tradition of walkers and generosity.

The CROP Walk is Sunday, October 8 with registration at 1:30 and the walk starting at 2:00.  It is our goal this year to have 20 walkers to traverse the 5 mile trek through our lovely Traverse City.  It is a chance to enjoy the beauty of our area and most importantly to walk in unity with other Christians of different faiths.  We walk because they walk all over the world just to get daily food and water.  Join us!

Helen Hankins and Sue Kelly will be recruiting walkers in the Commons during the month of September.  If you cannot walk, please consider a donation for one of our walkers.  If you want to know more about the CROP Walk stop the Commons or give Sue Kelly a call/email (231-223-8876 / [email protected]).

Turn in your Oleson's receipts to benefit the Grace Food Pantry!

Oleson's Community Share Program

Here's how it works:
  1. You shop at Oleson's for groceries (liquor sales do not qualify for points)
  2. Turn in your receipts to the church.  Look for the envelope on the bulletin board in the Parish Hall, and place your receipts inside it.
  3. We submit receipts back to Oleson's
  4. We are granted cash rewards for the food pantry ($1 spent on groceries = 1 cent in Community Share points)

For every $5000 in receipts we submit, we receive $50 in cash for our food pantry.  Every little bit helps!

Thank you for participating!
