Message from the PTO President
Dear VFES Families:

I hope you are enjoying the extra days of warm weather! I personally cannot let go of summer. Kids are in school and they are very excited to work with their respective teachers. This is a good time to pencil in some volunteer time at the school. Most of the PTO positions don't need volunteer clearances making it easier for parents to volunteer.

Next week, several PTO Board members and I will be available to speak with you at the 3 rd and 4 th grade curriculum night. We look forward to meeting you and answering any questions you may have. Check out our PTO Bulletin Board in the front lobby for more information.

Our chairs are also working hard to put together the 4 th Annual Falcon 5K Run/Walk and 1 Mile Kids' Fun Run on Sunday, October 9 th 2016. Please don't forget to register! Our children look forward to this event! Whole Foods is hosting a Shopping Day for VFES on Thursday, September 21 st and they are giving 5% back to the PTO. Please help us by shopping there on the 21 st

Our cultural arts committee is organizing Poetry Meets Percussion assembly for the children on September 22 nd . We are so proud to be able to host them!

As always, if you have any questions, suggestions or comments, please feel free to email me at ptopres@vfespto.org

Looking forward to hearing from you!

Much love,
Rujuta Mandelia

Poetry Meets Percussion All School Assembly-
Thursday, September 22nd at 9 and 10 AM

The PTO Cultural Arts committee has invited Poetry Meets Percussion to perform for the entire school on the morning of Thursday, September 22nd!  Percussionist, Josh Robinson, and spoken word artist, Jacob Winterstein, will join to create a dynamic and engaging exploration of rhythm and poetry. With a heavy dose of audience involvement, these artists explore how rhythms and spoken word can awaken a student's inner artist and inspire confidence.  Afternoon Kindergarten students are welcome to attend with the supervision of their parent or guardian.
The Publishing Center Needs Your Help

Last year was yet another record-setting year for VFES's Publishing Center! Nearly 100% of our 1st through 4th graders submitted stories, and our volunteers assembled a whopping 891 books!  In order to continue offering a Publishing Center program of this magnitude (the largest such program remaining in the T/E/ elementary schools), we need your help .  For those of you unfamiliar with the Publishing Center, 1st through 4th graders write and illustrate original stories, and a group of dedicated parent volunteers help turn those creations into hardbound books.  Our staff consists entirely of parent volunteers.   There are a variety of volunteer positions available (including typing, proofreading, about the author, titles and laminating, covers, and assembly).  Many areas allow you to volunteer from home, while others give you the opportunity to be on-site in school.  We are also incredibly flexible - you can volunteer when, and as much time as, your schedule allows.
If you are interested in volunteering in the Publishing Center or if you would like more information, please email Tarin Cataldo or Brookie White at vfepubcntr@tesd.net   Thank you!

Fourth Grade School Store Chairpeople NEEDED

The School Store is a favorite for the children of VFES on Friday mornings! We are looking for two  Fourth Grade  Parent volunteers to organize and coordinate the school store for the 2016-2017 school year.  All proceeds from the school store help fund the Fourth Grade End of Year Party so this is a very important fundraiser for the Fourth Grade Class.  Previous Chairpeople are still at VFES and can provide assistance as you get things up and running this year.  Please contact Amanda Ivory at amandaivory@comcast.net  if you are interested or have questions.  The Fourth Graders thank you!!!
