"As a fifth generation decedent, born and raised in Manchester, my roots run deep in this place. Through the many possessions and pictures passed down to me depicting the ways my ancestors worked and lived, I've become connected to our cities' past. The art work I create reflects this. The two landscapes on display are from a series of five oil paintings. The idea for them came from a childhood memory when our family would go for a drive or a day trip. My siblings and I would hop in the car's backseat and find a comfortable spot. I would lean my head against the door to look out the window and up at the sky. Everything moved quickly passed the car window as we traveled left and right up and down through the same Manchester streets like so many others before me. Over the last sixty years I have witnessed the many changes in Manchester. No matter how things change, some remain the same."
Pauline's work will be on display at YogaBalance throughout October.
"I started yoga in December 2016. I was looking for something to do outside of my home where I could interact with other people. I have been working from home for over 12 years and had been working out from home online as well. I knew there were many benefits to yoga, but I was mainly looking to stretch and work on flexibility while getting myself out of the house. I never really understood why people would rave about meditation and paying attention to the breath, but now I often find myself stopping and taking a breath before I have a reactive response to something. I had no idea how much stress I was holding onto in my body every day. I always feel welcomed at YogaBalance and am growing stronger in many new ways, not just in terms of the poses but also how I can handle the ups and downs of life. I am so thankful for what yoga has done for my spiritual and emotional well-being. There is plenty of yoga online but I will forever be grateful that I decided to step outside my comfort zone and into YogaBalance!"
