THIS SUNDAY IN WORSHIP
September 17, 2017

New Worship Series Starts Sunday!
SPLINTERS AND STONES

Sermon:  Rev. Jim Berlau - "Worry"
Scripture: Philippians 4:1-9

Things that keep us from being content and grateful: Worry, Entitlement, Greed and Disappointment   We are called to live gracious lives. Yet the hidden emotions that keep us from being grateful are abundant. When we misplace our focus on how things should be or used to be better, how we're not getting what we think we deserve, or simply how life's struggles keep us down, it prevents us from seeing all the blessings that are right in front of us. Like a splinter in our finger or a pebble in our shoe, the more we allow these hidden enemies to persist, the more discontent we become.  Let's take the time to acknowledge these emotions, reprioritizing our hearts and creating an attitude of gratitude that leads to a gracious life.
Hurricane Irma Recovery Efforts
In the wake of the storm, there are ways to bridge the gap between worry and trust. Loving and serving God means loving and serving our neighbor, and as we meet a neighbor's need, we focus less on worrying about ourselves.

While assessing needs in our community and the devastation in other parts of Florida and the Caribbean, the most important thing we can do is give to the United Methodist Committee on Relief (UMCOR). Hands'-on help clearing rubble and branches, light repairs and cleanup is needed for several in our Peace family and community. Please sign up on the clipboards near the altar this Sunday or contact the Church Office if you're willing to help.  THANK YOU!   -Pastor LeeAnn Inman

Trunk or Treat is Coming - October 29
Trunk or Treat is a great community event.  This year we hope to host over 1000 guests at Peace Church and that means we need your help.  Trunk or Treat will be on Sunday, October 29th from 4:00-7:00 p.m.  Right now mark your calendars, be in prayer and begin thinking about how you can help.   You can volunteer for a variety of things like set up or clean up.  We need trunk attendants, and people to donate candy for the trunks.  There is also a need for candy runners, bounce house supervisors, general hospitality, parking attendants, a DJ and MC, and a hay ride driver and volunteers.  There are many opportunities for all ages and we encourage everyone to join us for the fun. Sign up at the Hospitality table on the portico.  For questions, contact Julie Chatfield at juleelchat@gmail.com
Countless Ways to Connect this Fall!
What's Your "Third Place?"  We all know it's important to be connected, but it's hard to find time to build lasting friendships.  Where is community discovered in our hectic 21st century lives?  More and more we seem to be orienting our time around "Third Places." Locations like coffee shops, sporting leagues, digital media, entertainment locations and online cultures.  At Peace, we're trying to make it easier for you to find people who share your interests. We believe that when we get together and have fun with others, we'll begin to grow into a strong community that serves and grows together as a whole.

This is why we're launching monthly gatherings called Harmony Groups. Members of the staff are getting the ball rolling with options that surround some of their special interests.  We hope church members will feel inspired to form additional groups in the future that center around a personal hobby, sport, social activism group or other passion. Harmony Groups aren't meant to replace Christian study opportunities and worship, but instead will offer safe, non-threatening 'entry' points for inviting people into deepening circles of friendship.

Here are our options so far:
Rev. Jim Berlau's "Peace Pub Group"@ 7:00 p.m.
Meeting at House of Beer: 13526 Village Park Dr., Orlando, FL 32837  Begins Tuesday, October 3rd
