LAST DAY TO REGISTER Protestant Prayer Beads Class: Wednesday, September 20 at 2pm in McCracken Hall lead by Andrew Akers. The class include kits for you to make a set of prayer beads, brief history of prayer beads in different religions and branches of Christianity, as well as discussion of how to use them in the way that suits you best. Drew has even taught this class to a Methodist church in the Czech Republic. $25 materials kit, per person. Please register TODAY by September 14 to allow time for kits to be assembled. Sunday School begins this Sunday , September 17 at 10am in the Parish House. Grades prek - 5th meet on the lower level and 6 - 12 meet on the 2nd floor.

Sunday service times change to 7:45, 8:45, and 11am on Sunday, September 17. Sunday school will be at 10am in the parish house.

Benefit for New Directions Center - “Living Behind the Mask” Gala will be on Saturday, September 30 with open bar and hor d'oeuvres at 6pm and dinner at 7pm. Chic Street Man Benefit Concert for Haiti by the Virginia Haiti Collaborative (of which Trinity is a partner) will be held on Saturday, October 7 at 7:30pm in the Francis Auditorium of Mary Baldwin University. Ticket prices: Student $15 and General Admission $20. Join us for an evening of wit and soul with Chic Street Man who performed with Heifetz. “Taking an Outside Perspective – Coping with the Changes Dementia Brings”
Sharon DeBoever will present an Alzheimer’s caregiving program on October 3, at Grace Lutheran Church, Fellowship Hall on the lower level, 6:30 p.m. (500 S. Wayne Ave., Waynesboro) This is a program that will focus on the changes that occur in the various stages of Alzheimer’s and some of the other dementias. The program will offer specific tips to the caregiver on how to assist themselves and the person with the diagnosis to better manage those changes throughout the disease process.
The program will also focus on value of the caregiver caring for himself/herself throughout this process. Resources for additional outside assistance will be provided.
This program is free of charge and open to the public. RSVPs will be helpful but not required in order to accommodate seating and planning for “light” refreshments. RSVP to MHAA office, voicemail or email, 540.886.7181 or mhaa@ntelos.net.

Pursuing the Beloved Community
The Episcopal Diocese of Southwestern Virginia, in partnership with other faith communities and community organizations, is convening three community conversations across Southwestern Virginia entitled
Pursuing the Beloved Community: A Continuing Conversation on Race.

Each event will feature a presentation by Dr. Wornie Reed, Director of the Race and Social Policy Research Center and Professor of Sociology and Africana Studies at Virginia Tech. Following Dr. Reed's presentation, there will be question and answer time as well as informal discussion.

September 17 Bulletin Announcements
Nursery Hours for Fall - Spring: Beginning this Sunday, September 17 nursery hours will be 8:30am - 12:30pm. The nursery is located on the lower level of the Parish House.

Trinity Coffee Hour: We welcome you to gather each Sunday at 10 a.m. for Coffee Hour in the Foster Room on the first floor of the Parish House.

Sabbatical Reflections for the Congregation: Sunday, September 17 from 10 to 10:45 deacon Anne Grizzle will present considerations for this sabbatical season at Trinity. Theological reflections on Sabbath will be offered followed by group discussion. Included will be opportunities for the congregation to grow as ministers to one another in Christ as the rector is on Sabbatical. Also Sabbath practices as possibilities for parishioners to also adopt will be offered. Please come.

Praying at the Windows:  One of Trinity’s great resources are its beautiful stained glass windows. For those who wish to spend more time appreciating and praying with them, stay after church Sunday, September 17. Starting at 12:30, an introduction to the windows will be offered over a simple lunch. Then the group will spend 45 minutes at the windows followed by a brief reflection time. Come from 12:30 to 2 for lunch and some contemplative prayer time around our windows.
 
Sundays at 5 Begins Next Week, September 24:   David Jernigan, organist, will open the 2017-2018 Sundays at 5 Series with a thrilling program of rhythmic and iconic music for organ including works by Bach, Planyavsky, and Cooman. Nursery available for small children on the lower floor of the Parish House.
 
Food for Allen Chapel’s Pantry: Canned meats, such as chicken and roast beef, will be collected to distribute through the Allen Chapel food pantry program on September 24, the last Sunday of the month .

Episcopal Response to Hurricane Harvey: As we watch the destruction of Hurricane Harvey in Texas, I (Bishop Mark) commend to your consideration two courses of action to help. First, donate to the  Episcopal Diocese of Texas and their relief efforts through   Episcopal Relief and Development (to donate online: http://www.episcopalrelief.org/hurricane-harvey-response ) or make your check out to Trinity Episcopal Church with Hurrican Harvey in the memo line. Second, I ask you to continue to pray for the people of Texas as they begin the long process of recovery.
