Chapel Notes
Volume XL Issue 44 | September 17 and September 24, 2017
|
Dear St. James Community:
Thank you for your continued support of St. James and its missions and ministries. I believe 2017 is shaping up to be an incredible year as we grow, improve and expand. Earlier this year, we presented the "Growing St. James" Capital Campaign, and I provide this current update.
Capital Campaign Goal - The "Growing St. James" Capital Campaign had a goal of raising a total of $1,115,000 to:
Provide start-up costs for a modern worship service
|
$ 200,000
|
Renovate interior and exterior of the Fellowship Hall
|
$ 565,000
|
Fund other projects
|
$ 350,000
|
Total
|
$1,115,000
|
Campaign Results - As of August 31, 2017, we have received 146 pledges and one-time contributions totaling $779,153.
How We Proceeded - With these commitments, we proceeded with the top two priorities, including renovation of the Fellowship Hall and funding the new modern service, The Table Atlanta.
The Fellowship Hall renovation was completed on schedule and the estimated final cost of $505,000 was below our forecasted budget. The improvements are amazing, and the entire space has really been transformed. Thanks to all of those involved in the project for their leadership and hard work, especially Leslee Evans, who has single-handedly worked on all areas of the project.
Under the leadership of Emily Bagwell and the support of a core team, The Table Atlanta launched on Sunday, September 10th at 5:00 p.m. in the Fellowship Hall. Many of you have joined us for worship in this setting, and I think you will agree with me that the service enables us to serve our neighbors, worship in creative ways that speak to our modern lives and share God's love with everybody.
Other Projects - With our top two priorities complete, we want to proceed with other projects that have been identified. These include (1) the automatic door openers at church office entrance, (2) the sanctuary covered drop-off canopy, (3) the Great Hall egress canopy, and (4) the syncing of two separate HVAC systems. In the initial Capital Campaign appeal, we received $16,217 of pledges and contributions to these projects, so with the final spending for the Fellowship Hall renovation, we have commitments of approximately $74,153 for Other Projects. We will proceed with these other projects as sufficient funding is committed and received.
Capital Campaign Pledge Payments & Other One-time Contributions - We are grateful for the generous pledges and contributions received to date. While many of you made multi-year pledges, we are pleased to have also received many one-time contributions and welcome additional participation so we will be able to work through the other projects. If you have any questions regarding your pledge, please contact our Business Administrator, Shannan Wassel (404-601- 4812 or
[email protected]).
As I reflect on our beautiful accomplishments, I am thankful for all of you. It is truly an exciting time to be at St. James! Thank you for your contributions, pledges, and all that you are doing to "Grow St. James." Please contact me or any of the other leadership if you have any questions or input.
Sincerely,
William Schoeffler
