James Lee Gilham. NEWARK: A memorial service celebrating the life of James Lee Gilham, age 87, of Newark, will be held on Saturday, September 16, 2017 at 3:00 p.m. at Criss Wagner Hoskinson Funeral and Cremation Service, 179 Granville Street, Newark, Ohio. Military honors will be observed by the Licking County Veterans Alliance.
James was born in Newark, Ohio, on July 2, 1930, to the late Charles Sr. and Minnie (Maddox) Gilham. He passed away on August 26, 2017, at the Selma Markowitz Care Center, operated by Hospice of Central Ohio.
James proudly served his country in the
United States Navy. He graduated from Baldwin Wallace University, with a Bachelor's of Arts Degree. Prior to retirement, he was an art teacher with Wadsworth City Schools for over 40 years. James was an avid walker, enjoyed painting, art and drawing but most important was the time he spent with his granddaughter, Kara.
Survivors include his two children, Luana M. G. Franklin and James D. Gilham; granddaughter, Kara A. Franklin; brother, Harry (Maxine) Gilham; nieces and nephews, Sam, Beth, Brooke, Lori, Angela, Linda and Lisa; and numerous other friends and family members.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Wilma V. (Rogers) Gilham in 2004; and one brother, Charles Gilham, Jr.
The family would like to thank Select Specialty Hospital in Newark for the sincere and excellent care provided to James during his stay.
