Grace: It's Our Way of Life
As Episcopal Christians we
Worship at home daily and together weekly; Study the scriptures, our tradition, and what it means to be a disciple today; Serve our families, our parish, and our world in the name of  Christ. Everything we do is done with an ethic of Welcome because we are only here by Grace.
Where have you welcomed,  worshiped, studied or served?

150th Anniversary
Our strength grows with our youth:
Church School through the years

"The strength of our church grows with our youth,"  wrote vestryman Bob Bursian in 1973, capturing the spirit of Christian Education that has been present at Grace Church since its very beginning.

In fact, the roots of our Church School reach back to a time before Grace was even born, the early 1850s, when Episcopalian Albert Tracy Lay held Sunday School classes for children of all denominations in the early settlement of Traverse City. Even though written documentation is scarce,
Grace Church School kids in 1957
Sunday School classes were an important part of our early church life. By April 1878, a line item for Sunday School had been added to the budget, and in 1879 a Christmas tree was purchased and all the Sunday School children were given presents.

Official recordkeeping appears to have started in 1884, when Grace Church School registered 50 children and 8 teachers, with rector the Rev. Joseph S. Large as superintendent. From that point on the history of Church School reads like a stock market chart, with highs and lows corresponding click here to read more...

CROP Walk is coming Oct. 8
A chill in the air, migrating geese, and trees with the courage to change into beautiful arrays of color signal autumn.  Along with the wonders of fall, so too comes the CROP Walk.  Did you know the CROP Walk started in 1981 with Grace's rector, the Rev. Tom Stoll, as coordinator?  Grace has had a long history with the CROP Walk and we want to continue our tradition of walkers and generosity.

The CROP Walk is Sunday, October 8 with registration at 1:30 and the walk starting at 2:00.  It is our goal this year to have 20 walkers to traverse the 5 mile trek through our lovely Traverse City.  It is a chance to enjoy the beauty of our area and most importantly to walk in unity with other Christians of different faiths.  We walk because they walk all over the world just to get daily food and water.  Join us!

Helen Hankins and Sue Kelly will be recruiting walkers in the Commons during the month of September.  If you cannot walk, please consider a donation for one of our walkers.  If you want to know more about the CROP Walk stop the Commons or give Sue Kelly a call/email (231-223-8876 / [email protected]).

What's Happening in our Diocese?

Turn in your Oleson's receipts to benefit the Grace Food Pantry!

Oleson's Community Share Program

Here's how it works:
  1. You shop at Oleson's for groceries (liquor sales do not qualify for points)
  2. Turn in your receipts to the church.  Look for the envelope on the bulletin board in the Parish Hall, and place your receipts inside it.
  3. We submit receipts back to Oleson's
  4. We are granted cash rewards for the food pantry ($1 spent on groceries = 1 cent in Community Share points)

For every $5000 in receipts we submit, we receive $50 in cash for our food pantry.  Every little bit helps!

Thank you for participating!
