From the Principal

One year during my time as a student at Mayfield Christian School I made a project in art class.  It consisted of three one-dimensional buildings made out of clay and painted light blue.  The three buildings were glued to a board that I had painted dark blue.  I didn't think that it was a very successful project because the buildings were crooked and the paint on the board was streaky.  But, my parents took that project and hung it on the wall in our kitchen where it stayed for many years.  After it had been on the wall for a couple years, I asked my parents why they kept it there.  They told me that every time they looked at that project they were reminded of the connection between church, home and school and the importance of them in our lives.

Now, as I greet families and students each morning at Evergreen I think about that art project and I reflect on the privilege and responsibility that I have to partner with you as we work together to guide our precious students in God's truth.  I challenged myself to learn the name of each student within the first two weeks of school.  It's great to know student names.  But, now I look forward to getting to know each student better as we journey together while strengthening the connection between home and school this school year.

On the journey...
Ann Bakker

Evergreen News

Foot Frolic Frenzy is coming up on Friday, October 13, and we want everyone to be a part of this important PTO fundraiser!  Please look for the pledge packets that will be coming home in your child's backpack this week, and then return to their teachers when completed.  Thank you for your support!

GRCS Apparel Sale:  Show your school pride! Go to https://grcs.floralavepromo.com to see the latest GRCS swag. Youth and adult sizes available. For questions about the apparel please contact Betsy Kooistra  betsy@floralavepromo.com. Online orders only, order deadline is Sept. 13.

Picture Day:  School pictures will be taken on Monday and Tuesday, Sept. 18 & 19. If your preschool student does not attend on one of those days you are welcome to bring them in during that time or contact the office for other arrangements. Retakes are scheduled for Tuesday, Oct. 24.

FLEX Week: Evergreen's first Flex week is soon approaching. Monday, Sept. 25 through Friday, Sept. 29 will be our first opportunity for families to take a break from the school routine or sign up for our Enrichment programing. A flyer went home last week explaining our fall enrichment where we team up with Camp Roger for a week of fun and learning in the great outdoors.

As a reminder, if your student does not sign up for Enrichment Week programming then Sept. 25-Sept 29 will be a week off from school.

Moms In Prayer: There are many Moms In Prayer groups open to Evergreen Parents to gather in prayer for our students, teachers, staff and community. There is also an opportunity to start a group of our own with mentorship from another Moms In Touch leader. If you are interested in getting involved in such a ministry please contact Carrie Doezema in the Evergreen Office at 574-5900, or by email at cdoezema@grcs.org.

PTO Update

Foot Frolic Fundraiser: It's that time of year again!  Please mark your calendars for the annual Foot Frolic Frenzy on Friday, Oct. 13.  This one vital fundraiser helps to support all field trips and PTO related activities for the year.  Pledge envelopes will be sent home this week, and several volunteer opportunities will be available. Let's all pitch in to help make this a successful event for our kids and school!

We still need room parents for Preschool, Team 1 and Team 2. If you are interested please contact Kara Van Drie asap at  karasvandrie@gmail.com . Room parent responsibilities include such things as facilitating communication between teachers, PTO, and parents; hosting classroom parties; and organizing teacher gifts. Each room parent works closely with the teachers and is welcome to bring his/her own ideas to the job.

Evergreen PTO Events Needs Your Help!
There are many opportunities to get involved and help out at your child's school. Check out the link to this sign up genius to see our upcoming events and sign up. If you  would like more information on a certain event please contact Kara VanDrie at  karasvandrie@gmail.com.

New 2 You News
For those unfamiliar, New 2 You is an upscale resale shop run primarily by volunteers. Proceeds directly support tuition reduction in the form of an annual per student grant. This year the grant amount is $300 for each child you have enrolled in GRCS. Your tuition has been reduced by that amount.

Your school enrollment form included a statement about this New 2 You grant. When you checked the box to accept the grant, you made a commitment to volunteer for a total of three hours at New 2 You. You also selected a specific month. A few weeks before that month comes around, you should receive an email invitation to sign up for a specific shift. Contact Laura Szotko ( lszotko@grcs.org) with any questions.

Thank you so much for your wonderful support of New 2 You.  We simply could not operate our store without your donations, your volunteer hours as well as your shopping dollars.
  • We have recently launched our fall clothing collection and the selection is superb so stop in soon!
  • Do the kids need cleats?  We have a volunteer who scrubs each pair, sizes them, and shelves them in our sporting goods department. (Thanks Vonda!)
  • We are selling BRAND NEW mattresses!  We have found a vendor who will provide fabulous quality mattresses at wonderful prices!  We carry two different styles;  a great quality standard set priced at $219 for a twin as well as a plush pillow-top option with twin set priced at $299.
 We are in need of:
  • Fall and winter clothing for men, women, and children (especially better brand-name clothing and coats for our boutique departments)
  • Gently used furniture (especially tables and chairs, sofas, and dressers)
  • Newer appliances
  • Household items and wall art
We are also in need of your time!
  • All parents accepting the New 2 You grant have agreed to work 3 hours at the store. Get your commitment out of the way by scheduling now! Check out our website at www.new2youshop.organd click the volunteer tab for the volunteer schedule.
  • Ever dreamed of working in a store? We are looking for regular volunteers to join our New 2 You family!  Volunteer shifts needed: Saturday mornings or afternoons, Monday, Wednesday, or Thursday from 4-7, and Friday afternoons.  Fitting room attendants are especially needed but if you enjoy working with customers or have the gift of organization we'd love to have you join us!  Want to give it a try?  Talk to your friends and family and then call Karen at 942-2929 or email me at new2youkaren@grcs.org.  I'd love to introduce to your friends and family the greatest volunteer opportunity of all time!
