Register now for fall retreats!
By now, you've all received invitations to our upcoming fall retreats.  Registration is now open!  Both retreats will feature a specialized one-day Rockwood Leadership Institute training, "Connecting as Leaders", which will offer new material for alumni who wish to take it again.  The retreats will also feature an inspiring speaker, and time for networking, small group discussions, and socializing (around a campfire, and on nearby trails!).  In New England, we will be joined by Sherri Mitchell, Executive Director of the Land Peace Foundation in Maine.  Ms. Mitchell is a social activist and lawyer who works on protecting indigenous rights in Maine and around the country.  Our California speaker will be announced soon.  Added bonus to attending the retreats:  Both are in beautiful locations and offer great food.  Come one, come all!

Now scheduling network calls!

We have started scheduling our network calls for the next 12 months.  We welcome Fellow-initiated topics!  We had four great calls in the spring led by Fellows on Standing Rock and pipeline issues, building alliances with labor, promoting evidence-based governance, and conservation and climate adaptation.  If you have a topic you'd like to offer as a network call, please email Lauren today so we can get you on the schedule!

Suggestions needed for professional coaches, trainers, and speakers

We are always on the lookout for great professional contacts that we can share with all of you.  If any of you have great recommendations for the following, please let Erin know.
  • Professional coaches - we will add to our growing list that can be found on the private side of the Switzer Foundation website, under "Professional Resources."

Karen Levy:  Aligning science with public service

Among her many accomplishments bridging her love of science and public service, Karen Levy's most recent is her selection as a fellow of the AAAS Leshner Leadership Institute for Public Engagement with Science.  "The best way to maintain public support for science is for people to understand it," Levy says, "to understand the underlying scientific process, to learn about exciting discoveries, and to understand how it affects their own lives."

Kimberley Rain Miner:  Security matters

2016 Fellow Kimberley Rain Miner is developing a framework to assess the threat of pesticides - including DDT - that for years have been trapped in glacial ice and now are entering watersheds as the glaciers melt.  She seeks to quantify effects of pollutants downstream for her doctorate at the University of Maine.   Watch a fantastic video about her work and leadership in this area.

Logan McCoy joined Environmental Resources Management as a Project Manager and Management Consultant.

Chris Maroshegyi is a new Marshall Memorial Fellow for leadership development with the German Marshall Fund.
