ARGI GIVES

August was a busy month for our volunteers!

Last month, employees from our Louisville office teamed up with Big Brothers Big Sisters to help at the Louisville Zoo's annual Brew at the Zoo. Our team helped BBBS raise $1,000!

ARGI Cincinnati employees volunteered at Habitat for Humanity, and helped build a house for a family in need.

Great work volunteers!

SAFELY DONATING TO DISASTER RELIEF EFFORTS
Natural disasters like the flooding that has come after Hurricanes Harvey and Irma always create an overwhelming need for help, and a desire to provide support for those affected by the destruction.

However, you need to be careful and consider taking steps before you contribute your financial aid to the relief effort.
  • Do your research - make sure the organization you're donating funds to is a reputable nonprofit organization. Charity Navigator has a list of top nonprofits responding to the hurricane relief effort
  • Be smart about responding to email solicitations - be skeptical of emails from organizations you have not heard of before or haven't supported in the past
  • Do not give money to hurricane victims that you do not know, especially those soliciting online - anyone alleging individual help is most likely to be part of a scam
  • If you are contacted by phone, ask the following questions:
    • The name of the charity they represent
    • The percentage of your donation that will go to that charity
    • How much will actually go towards the hurricane relief effort
    • How much will go towards administrative costs
  • If you do choose to donate never send cash donations - for security and tax purposes, it is best to pay by check or by credit card. Also, keep record of any donations you make.
  • If you believe you've been a victim of a charity scam, contact the Federal Trade Commission to file a complaint.
