We move from the gallery walls to the room this month with a noteworthy collection of Canadian sculpture. With a lens on art that occupies our spaces, we look to works in bronze, stone, quartz, plaster, wood and mixed media. Sculptural works fresh from
Andrew Bell's studio (below:
faceplate series 4), a release of figurative bronzes by
Joe Rosenthal, newly available pieces by
E.B. Cox and other great works provide a focused collecting opportunity in
H x L x W.
Tied into the exhibition are two richly informative events about much loved and acclaimed Canadian sculptor
E.B. Cox (1914-2003):
* please join us at the gallery on Saturday, September 16 for a talk on E.B. Cox and his legacy of public art from 2-4pm. E.B.'s daughter, Kathy will make a presentation at 2:30pm.
* we also invite you to share in a specially arranged opportunity to tour the
Garden of the Greek Gods and other important Cox works at Exhibition Place on Wednesday, September 20 at 15 Saskatchewan Road from 2-4pm with a talk at 2:30pm. Please see the invitation below for further details.
My father created an incredible legacy of public art, much of which can still be seen in Toronto and beyond. There's a story behind most of these works of art, and I'm excited to be able to share a few tales with E.B. Cox fans at Ingram Gallery on the 16th.
People who love E.B.'s sculpture will know that his largest and best known installation is the Garden of the Greek Gods at Exhibition Place. Sadly, there has been no public access to this art for over three years, as it's behind the fences of the Toronto Event Centre (formerly Muzik). However, on September 20, Ingram Gallery has arranged a rare opportunity to tour the patio and see the Greek Gods up close. I'm looking forward to seeing a lot of E.B. Cox supporters there!

Ryan Dineen is a few short weeks away from opening
Stopwatch, his third solo exhibition with the gallery. Building consistently on his paint and subject matter, Dineen is on a path to great heights as a Canadian artist. Not one to stop his brush, he even paints lakeside, dockside, outside on his weekends away. Recently at a Georgian Bay cottage, Dineen got together for art chats in his pop-up studio on the porch with fellow artist and friend, Ed Bartram.

Featured above is a lovely small scale bronze maquette included in
H x L x W by William McElcheran (1927-1999) for his 1976 Public works of Canada
large scale bronze installed in the courtyard of Lasalle Academy at 373 Sussex Drive in Ottawa.
The works that grace our walls at home or in the places we work, play and visit are heightened by the presence and dimensionality of the sculptures we pass by in the public, as well as those in our own spaces. Living with art that occupies space as we do, affords a depth of consideration and contemplation that brings together a collection, giving both meaning and a personal narrative to it. This month at the gallery, on the phone, or in email, we warmly welcome conversations together around the creation, appreciation and collecting of art shaped in three dimensions.
